does "wizard" favored class apply to specialists?

Post by krunchyfrogg »

If I play an elf, or any other race with "wizard" listed as the favored class, does that apply to specialist wizards too?

For example, will an elf rogue 4/diviner 8 have an experience penalty? I know a rogue 4/wizard 8 wouldn't...

You should be fine I was once playing a rock gnome Rogue (X) wizard (y).
Rock gnomes favoured class is Illusionist but I never suffered an EXP penalty.

Thats odd because I once created a party with two multiclassed gnomes, a mage and an illusionist. I assumed that IWD2 would be no different from Neverwinter Nights in this regard (i.e. specialists = wizards).
However, the gnome mage/rogue suffered from a penalty.

Only way to be sure would probably be to create a new party with a specialist and give the char (via console or dalekeeper?) enough experience points to level up and multiclass. :)

It should be noteedn the char screen (unter "favored class") if the char recieves a penalty or not.

my experience with the gnome (deep gnome actually) is that I got -20% xp penalty (on char sheet) when making them wizard1Rogue1 - (I wanted wail of banshee). So I went back to a saved game and made illusionist1Rogue1 with no penalty?

With drow I have made many (specialist mage)/(class X) mixes with no problem (to xp at least).

if the classes are all within one level of each other, you should never suffer an exp penalty no matter what classes you combine.

yeah, you are right. I shouldn't quote examples from memory! Sorry Ravensong and forum!

anyhow try it and see what happens. save game before leveling is the moral of the story.

Edit: probably the xp penalty didn't occur right then but later (higher in levels). I know I didn't want many rogue levels with that character since the deep gnome is already ECL -3. So in other words not only was it a problem but it made me go back to an old save game and probably lost 2-3 hours of gaming.
