How are druids best used?

Post by krunchyfrogg »

THIS IS ASSUMING NO MODS!!!!

How are druids best used? Are they melee fighters, healers, offensive spellcasters, are they good with shapeshifts, or are they better with a dip into other classes (monk, bard, ect.)?

I want a druid in my party, but don't know how to best take advantage of the class.

What is the best racial choice for a druid?

To best use a druid you should have him/her use a good mix of offensive spells. The only real drawback to a druid is the fact they cannot auto-cast healing spells. At higher levels he/she can be come one of your strongest fighters if you with the powerful shapechanges available. In the begining however they should be used more as a ranged fighter.

ranged fighter, eh? does that mean an elf is a good choice, with their automatic skill with the bow?

That really depends on if you want to take the character through HoF mode or not.

A few constants:
-Adding a barbarian level gives the druid rage. A raging dire-bear is an effective weapon.

-The druid has a few very effective ranged spells like fire storm, but if you go to HoF mode, they aren't very effective any more.

-The druid has the best summoning spells unless you're not patched to the latest version. In HoF mode, the highest elemental summons have a better BAB than anything in the game, just make sure that your party has protection from evil in effect at all times.

-After the druid gets the maximum level of spells and the highest shape change, the druid doesn't get more effective at all, so think about multi classing if you go to HoF mode.

-Barkskin, a druid-only spell, gives generic armor class and is most effective after level 12, giving the recipient 5 points of armor class. So if you have a druid at all, think about getting to level 12 first.

.

not using the mod, a druid in a party is just to get access to barkskin!

for summoning (undead!) and healing a cleric is by far a better choice!

for offensive spellcasting a druid is nothing to sorc even in normal game - not to mention HOF!

As a tank all spellswords are much more effective - especially in HOF!

unmodded a druid is a fair allrounder - and without the druid-only barkskin spell there is defiently no reason to take a druid from a powergaming point of view!

...besides as a speaker and support build: druid min. 12 - bard min. 11

...modded a druid 21 - bard 9 is awesome - just think about a elemental half-dragon (exeptional BAB, HP, immunities and melee damage - but worse AC) using MI and blur!!!

...btw. this is one of the best speaker builds you can get!
