All melee weapons usuable by thieves, such as short sword, dagger and club. Note that the Staff of the Magi doesn't work (would otherwise be great for thief/mages) since it's not usuable by thieves (although staves normally are).

The most powerful weapons for backstabbing are Katanas (yes !) and Longswords...Those two ARE allowed to thieves !
Not very thievish, but effective :)

My favorite backstab weapon is the Staff of the Ram +6. It gets 1d6+12 + 1d4 damage. ALL OF THIS DAMAGE IS THEN MULTIPLIED by the backstab multiplier. So with a thief, minimum damage is 70(14x5) points; with an assasin, minimum damage is 98(14x7)!!!! Then, there's a chance to knock back and stun. Plus, it's +6 to hit, with a speed factor of 1. I love this as a backstab weapon.

Just wondering, are strength bonuses multiplied in a backstab?

I used the short sword of backstabbing. even though this weapon gets outdated in ToB by all the +6, +1d6 this, +1d6 that, 50% chance death, that grants user immunity to this and that....I still like backstabbing with a weapon created for it. if I didn't use that I'd use the cutthroat.

This Kensai/thief did all his backstabbing with Celestial Fury. Instant death almost every time, plus great visuals.

I've just acquired TOB (yes, it finally hit the Netherlands!) and I've got 5 stars in long swords as well as in katanas now so I think my favorite backstab weapon might change often. Long swords seem to be a bit more specific than katanas...

My favorite backstabbing weapons for my assassin are: Celestial Fury, Short Sword of the Mask +5, and Staff of the Ram +6.
