XP - World map travel too fast.

Post by clinton5 »

Hi everyone, I have reinstalled and decided to play this great game again that I have many fond memories of. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the game seemed to run perfectly on my XP S2 machine.

There is one thing however that is bugging me that I haven't seen mentioned here and was wondering if anyone else has the same problem, and if so do they know how to fix it.

When I travel on the world map I move at turbo speed, I have just left Aroyo on foot and I move at about twice the speed I remember the car moving when I played the game a few years ago on my windows 95 machine.

I have tried tinkering with the dxdiag settings such as turning sound acceleration down to zero, using different compatibility modes etc.. but nothing has worked.

I was wondering whether everyone has the same issue under XP and just puts up with it as it certainly isn't a game stopper, just annoying. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I don't think you actually move faster - it is simply the time on the screen which moves faster which inturn makes it seem like you move faster.
So basically it should have no gamplay consequences at all from what I could see.

If it is a problem for you, then try to search for software which can "slow down" your CPU speed when playing these games to simulate an older computer.

Thanks for the reply.

What you say makes sense but what I don't understand is that if the speed of the cpu's the problem why then does the game run at normal speed in the rest of the game and only affects the world map. If the cpu was too fast then why wouldn't the entire game be running at turbo speed? Your character should be zipping around the screen in Aroyo.

Actually, a lots of people do not get so many encounters due that "problem".
That's why there is a patch to it ;)

The patch to fix this can be downloaded here.
