stealing dragon eggs in under dark.

Post by mewp »

What is the best way to steal the eggs. I tried just storming into the  Temple and I tried making main char. invisible and getting them. But they always catch me. Then the whole city tries to kill me.

I usually use one of my mages and places them just beside the crater thingy that the eggs are in and than pauses the game and then click on the eggs and as soon as i have them i cast shadow door, then its a simple matter of walking out og there.

dont bring ant other party members with you, leave them at the door to the temple

I usually backstab the guards with two members. Keep everyone else away from the door, backstab both guards at the same time.
Then, bring them back to where everyone are. Take a cleric (with a copied egg if you have one), enter the room, cast Sanctuary and get egg (or swap egg).
All the golems get angered, but the cleric cannot be noticed under the sanctuary, so leave there and shut door.

Galuf's guide to the drow.

One helpful point on Drow culture taken from the Forgotten Realms novels (the Realms being the setting of this game): The drow leave no witnesses to their actions (if they do, they've either failed and must die or they have a special reason to let them live).

My advice: Like said before,
1) have your character undetected when you first get into the egg chamber door.
2) Next, kill the door guards.
3) Take the eggs (and do whatever switch you wish). Become invisible again.
4) Get the heck out of there! After that, do whatever else you may wish with the eggs, and watch the possible chaos that ensues! :D

I usually use the Staff of the Magi. As mentioned, leave your party out of sight of the guards, then just turn invisible, grab the eggs, turn invisible again, and walk out.

I cram everyone between the two guards and the door behind them, then I simultaneously attack both of them, then stroll in, swap eggs, kills golems, and everyone is still happy.

He has a point. If your party is up to it, you can always run around engaging in marathon acts of rampant destruction. It's the one city area in BG2 where such things won't wreck quests and/or rep.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Best way is to do all the possible quests and buy all the items you want and then wreck the city. Those merchants have some of the best spells in the game :D

Do you have ToB installed?

IIRC, ToB introduced a bug that was never properly fixed (or maybe it was; try patching anyways). The bug is that if any of your party is now in viewing range of any drow other than the two immediately in front of the chamber, the entire city notices. To prevent this, get all of your party in the little space in front of the door, so only those two are visible, then slaughter them. Following that, slaughter the golems inside.
