Someone asked if it wasn't completely random, and I'm pretty sure it isn't, because in some plasteel canisters you get the same items over and over from game to game. For example, the prolouge is like this, the virbroblade and stealth generator on peragus, as Darth Reven mentioned, and a few others in random places where it is consistently the same.
Just finished the game for the first time and i had 3 of those things...never even figuered out what they do or where to equip them lol, didnt know they were a powerful item to find.
What did annoy me is that woman on onderon (i think) that promised me a crystal for an open visa ,and what do i get instead of freeing a woman and 3 kids and probably getting a crap load of light points...I get a damn DS only crystal !#*&^@#*&@&* hehe, that was by far the most annoying thing in the game.
Actually, according to some walkthroughs, you can use this crystal in the lightsaber equipped with the YOURNAME crystal, whether you are light or not. I haven't confirmed this myself though.

Nope. I had the evil crystal in my yourname saber. Then started being good & all of a sudden my saber is unusable (because it was dark side & I was light. Also, had Keria 'fine tune' the yourname crystal after I turned dark. Then when I turned light again the saber was unusable. Had to yank it out & have her tune it again. Not so bad until you get to the end game & she isn't available to do this for you.

the lightsabers you get are definately random. first time through i wanted double ones and had to wait ages, kept getting short ones together with the double i made. this time through i am using a single lightsaber and have 3 double ones as well as the single one i made.
as for how many times you play affecting what you get. i don't think it matters. got far better items my first time through (in general) then i have got so far in my second game (although i am only 1/3 of the way through at the moment).

I agree. I think you may feel as if you are getting better items in your 3rd-6th runs, but it's simply that you know the game better, you know what the items do better, you know where to look better and hence you find more items overall and understand how to equip the optimal ones.
I do wonder if your class may not affect what you get, though, at least as far as attirbute-boosting items go? I seem to get more WIS boosting things when I'm a consular, and more STR-boosters as a guardian...

i've noticed that too. as a sentinel i got a variety of strength, dex and wisdom things, as a consular i seem to get loads of wisdom and charisma boosting items. not played as a guardian yet - thats for my next run when i play as male for the first time too.

There are tiers of items I believe...
Like the named items - Circlet of Saresh etc - are at the top
Then you get items of similar power.
However, quest related items are set... as are the spinning blades you get from the Twin Suns.

I'm afraid I don't - I'm a Jedi Consular/Master, and I keep picking up Sith Power Gauntlets all over the place! It's very annoying, because I strongly believe Strength is a pretty useless attribute when it comes to my way of playing the game.
I've also got a homemade double-bladed lightsaber, and kept finding double-bladed ones everywhere, so all my Jedi characters had lightsabers except Kreia. (But she insists on punching people and casting Knight Speed all the time anyway, so it doesn't matter that much.) Then finally Mandalore gave me a lightsaber. (Or was it someone else? Now I can't remember. ) I keep picking up green and Phond crystals a lot, too, and I've already got two Onasi blasters. And on my very first planet, Dantooine, I found a Sith War Sword in a nearby plasteel cylinder, which I seem to think is a little strange, for some reason...
So, yeah, the random item generator's a cool idea, but sometimes it just doesn't make sense.

You should do so well as to be sucked into the engine of some evil Sith Lord, you know.
the lightsabers are more annoying than anything else. i'm on my second game, just about to go back to dantooine to meet up with all the jedi masters and i now have 5 double bladed lightsabers and a single one that i used, then 4 short ones i think. surely a random generator should have given me another normal lightsaber by now lol
I think that it has to be that you get better stuff the more you play.
I've played the game through once, on my second game on PERAGUS I leave the place with two Electric cappy-whatsits (belts that protect on 75% of elec.) and a fire 75% off belt. I also got a Jal-Shey Neophyte and gloves by my first planet after Telos, which I didn't have last time until 3-4 planet (I forget). Those are my only examples, but in general I seem to be getting better stuff (droid armor mark 3 where before I got mark 1).

i'm on my third game now and i really have not noticed a big difference in the quality of items. i'm getting different items a lot of the time but they are just as good as the items i got first time - i got a lot of very good items first time through. as for the jal-shey stuff - i always seem to get that early if i do dantooine first, whether ls or ds.

Pure chance. The game doesn't track how often you've played through it, which would require the input of a specific user (not character) name. You just got lucky the second time around. But since you can easily beat nearly all AI combatants using a cap pistol that shoots gum wads, who really needs the big power?

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
