FOR HELP WITH DISPLAY/RUN ISSUES, this worked for me

Post by kellykaufman »

Hey, just thought I'd post a little something, let people know what I did to solve display and run problems on my system. I just bought a new computer, that's pretty up to date, and it's a media center edition, with windows xp MCE installed. It's a gateway, GT4015E, running an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor @ 2.2Ghz, with a 2000Mhz system bus, and 512KB L2 Cache. It came with an nVIDIA GeForce 6100 graphics card, and has 1024MB DDR Dual-Channel memory. Now all that sounds good and fine, right?? Well, I was playing KOTOR with no real issues, I messed with the graphics options and such, seemed like it could pretty much handle anything I did, so I was like "Right ON!!" Then, I get to Dantooine. And my unstable little existence is almost wiped from the face of the earth. I mean, everything was fine until I went out into the open fields, and actually started doing some of the quests and such. IT WAS MOVING AT LIKE 1 FRAME PER SECOND!! I was about to pull out my friggin hair!! So, I started reading. And kept reading. And kept reading. I changed the graphics options, to the bare minumum, and the screen resolution, the refresh rate, I mean everything, to as low as it could possibly go, no shadows, no grass, no nada. Well, didn't help. Then I read this one post on this site, mentioning the drivers for the graphics card. Well, after quite the process, mostly which was my fault, I uninstalled all the drivers for the nVidia, evidently it controlls lots of other things, cause i couldn't even connect to the internet, but anyway, so i finally restored my system, downloaded the drivers and installed them, and now it's fine, and I mean absolutely fine. No slowdown at all, grass, shadows, all that jazz. Keep this post in mind if your having problems. Sorry for being so long winded.

I had the same problem. got a new Dell, and the game misreads my video card-mistakes it for my chipset. Still, it plays nearly everything just fine, except for that darn grass on Dantooine. My system crashes if I even think to enable grass. Well, I can live without it, I guess
