According to the walkthrough beating this fiend in pre CE was a mindless cake walk compared to what I have now with the Collector's Edition. Yet, maybe someone has discovered tactics that help a whole lot surviving and getting the job done. I've used Time Ward of Fire but what a pain and I haven't survived half way through his hitpoints yet. It is hard to manage with its summoned demons helping and his super spell keeps throwing me out of melee contact.
Help!
Thanks.

Both times I killed the fiend, I had to use melee attacks. Basically, I'd run somewhere safe, save my game, and then rush at the fiend, whack him a few times, and then run away to rinse and repeat. It's probably more important to have pro magic rather than pro fire. His fire attack doesn't seem to be anything special, but that purple lightning spell is a killer.

Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

I found a location where the fiend stayed stuck and although I could just barely aim around the corner the fiend couldn't do likewise. I wore him half-way down with my bow which took a long time and then when I realized he wasn't going to be moving or chasing me around I went in with repeated melee attacks to finish him off. I checked my stats and I'm into level 23 now and had over 2 million skill points to apply. Since melee still remains very important and effective I put the lions share into removing the -4 penalty on the Deathlord Plate and wearing it. Stats are 63 with Honor at 90.
Thanks always for the encouragement.

Hee Hee The fiend is no walk in the park any more is he. I was shocked when suddenly I realized i had about 2 hitpoints left and was running for my life. But he seemed to get stuck in the hall before he reached the coffin so I was able to stand on the coffin and blast away with fire burst. His purple blast nova spell couldn't reach me from there. D
