Custom Title
seeing as a few people seem to want these back, i decided to post a poll/petition (you listenin' buck?) for all those that would like to cast off the generic "member" and "exalted member" titles and get something with a little more...originality.
so post whether or not you'd like this to go ahead and answer the poll above. and maybe if we get enough names then buck will pay attention to this thread.
so get posting!

She's got a smile that, it seems to me, reminds me of childhood memories, where everything is as fresh as the bright blue sky.

I already posted my view on this in the postcount thread.
But, to add, I really think it would be fair to allow everyone to create a custom title.
With some people having taken advantage of this feature several years back, something of a 'distinction' has been created, and it is only natural that others have been interested in coming up with their own titles.
I suppose the other option is to take it away from those of us who have it, but that is not something I would voluntarily give up. I simply feel the option should be available to all.

I swear I just saw a post in here about not bludgeoning Buck with polls.... odd....
Anyway, if that is a concern, I'd just like to say that petitions are a time-honoured tradition in democratic societies

Haha, just what I was thinking, DW...
I like this idea. It just adds some flavour, as said in the other thread.

[QUOTE=Fiona]That'd be "time honoured ineffective tradition" I think

Don't shatter my illusions, isn't SYM a place of absolute and idealised democracy?
@Magelord,
yes![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/)

On one hand, sure it's nice. If you're really good, you might even succeed at making someone smile for a second with your custom title. But on the other hand: why would you want to customize everything around your post? It's the post that counts. In fact, it wouldn't be horrible if posts had only a name, avatar and join date above them.
What's the point of surrounding your messages with all kinds of texts, quotes and what not? It's really only the name/avatar and message that counts when posting here.
So, while I think a custom title is really nice, I don't think it'll add anything.

It's because you become a conformist to posting, everybody thinks that it's ONLY the post that matters, when I can gain a bunch of images and attitudes from people with different signatures, with more of a post count, with there own title.
For instance, moderator is rather dull if EVERY Mod is named that. But, "Moderator and board bimbo" is a little more unique, thus bringing in the diversity.
Sigs and titles aren't there to make you smile for a second, as a lot of the time you can get what kind of guy/girl that person is just by there sigs or by there custom titles.
Point is, diversity, being unique.

Listen up maggots, Mr. Popo's 'bout to teach you the pecking order.

When you post, the things you say decide whether or not you are as unique as you like to think you are.
I won't recognize you by your title or signature, but, like most people here, by your avatar and name. It is up to the reader to determine what kind of person you are.
Many -if not all- signatures can be interpreted in a multitude of ways and are very often not telling much about the person. By reading one's posts, you get an impression of what the person is like and you might be able to interpret his/her signature in a certain way. At the same time, you attach the impressions you have to his/her name/avatar and you shape a virtual personality for that member, which is important in communication, because it enables you to expect certain things the person says and you get a better and faster understanding of the thoughts of the person.
So any uniqueness, diversity and meaning comes from the (variable) content of the posts and those values are connected to the steady factor: the shell.
If your title is very unique but your posts are dull, you're just misleading me. If your title is dull and your posts are unique, you gain credibility and some form of 'respect', whatever that might yield, but it's the best you can do here in SYM, because you won't get money for posting.
If you want diversity in your shell, there's enough customizables in the form of a signature, ava and location. Mustn't it end somewhere?
