why is my parry skill not increasing??

hello, i have a lvl 35 rogue base class, my parry skill is lvl 8, in my character sheet my parry is 45/48.

i tried putting two more lvls on my parry skill, to lvl 10, and my parry did not increase. its still 45/48

but, when i just got this black plate mail which has +5 parry bonus, my parry increased by five points, now it has a modified total of 52.

so why do items increase my parry, but not the actual skill? is there any reason to increase my parry skill past lvl 8? or will i need more items to increase my parry?

and one other not related question, i was playing mutli player, got this red armor helmet that had bat type ears, or fin type ears on it, it was in one of mogs lvl 12 chests in his safehouse, so im guessing it must be good.
i was helping my friend pick the lock, but i stupidly forgot to save my character after so lost the helmet before i could identify it, anyone know what helmet that was?
i think i want to hex edit it back into my character...i did earn it

Hello Myyth.
I have also had puzzling experiances with the parry stat and skill. Have you tried increasing the skill one more time? For me sometimes it takes more than one increase of the skill to bump up the stat, though i can't say its taken more than two more levels of the parry skill. Thats all i can think of.

hmm, i have couple million skill points right now, i guess i could save the game and then bump up parry from lvl 8 to lvl 11 and see if it increases, i myself have no idea how effective parry skill is, so maybe its enough at lvl eight...

I don't know aobut Collector's Edition / v1.5, but the Parry skill is broken and useless in 1.3 and 1.4.

hey myyth.
from what i can tell some stats have a max depending on the race you pick. i picked a female elf and can't get my speed any higher than 280 or something like that. oh by the way parry is not useless. the higher the level the less you actually get hit. like when they swing and it looks like you get hit but no damage is taken away. the higher it is the more that happens. anyways go ahead and try what gremle said. might work. hope that helped
