Have you raised all your still-neglible skills very high with trainers? Enchanted everything you could possibly want? Created the most powerful and useful spells possible? Purchased every house in the game? Grabbed the best uniques in the shops?

yea, I think after purchasing every house(I only use 1, in skingrad, for proximity to the zone & to a shop, while having enuf containers to keep stuff sorted in), every magic item 1/2 worth buying, and consistantly buying soul gems off merchants as they got empty grands, or grands with grands... I still have like 100+k

I am finding myself in a similar situation. There is nothing to do with the gold I have. I have all the houses, the best armor I actually found/enchanted, my alchemy is up so I do those myself as well ... bah. Well I guess you can say I am collecting items for the sake of collecting, I am not even trading any more. Gold is of no use.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.

This happens in virtually every RPG I play in - at some point, I always seem to have broken the bank to the point money makes no different anymore. For the recrod, I think it took me slightly longer to get there in Oblivion than in most games.
I always find it funny when I complete a quest - in Oblivion or any RPG - and I am given a few hundred gold as a reward, when I am carrying 100k or more (not sure how I carry that much...). The person giving me the reward always acts like it is a fortune.....

Quite a few RPGs I've played have nothing like this, and until the end of the game money is something you have to use sparingly in strategic choices. This applies to such titles as the BG series, PS:T, NWN, IWD, the Ultima series, Betrayal at Krondor, V:TM: Bloodlines, the Wizardry series, the Gothic series, and KoDP.
On the other hand, Bethsoft has always had problems with balanced gameplay, and the economy was broken in MW even earlier than in Oblivion. They don't seem to regard it as very important, which is unfortunate.

I guess I must not be as far thought it as you guys are then, because I'm at level 21 and I've only completed the DB, TG, and MG. I'm also about half way through the fighters guild and done tons of quests in every town and I'm struggling to get enough money to buy the house in chorrol which is 20,000 and I've only been able to get about 11,000 so far. But this charactor I'm trying not to get to deep in doing to much with magic because he's a thief/assassin and I don't really thing he should need to be. I also have another one that is a battlemage that I just started and have only really used magic and I think I've only equiped my sword 4 times and I've only started with the recommendations with the mages guild and selling potions that I've made I'm already up to 15,000 and I'm only at level 3 just because of making potions and running from store to store. I think it's kind of rediculus about the money about these to because why should it be that I can take 5 minutes buying, making, and selling potions to get the same money that I can from 3 or 4 quests? I've actaully been really disapointed that I haven't gotten more from the TG or DB for the stuff I did. In the DB I was expecting to get 1,000 for some of the murders even and all you get is a weapon or something worth 300 and 50 for a bonus if you qualified for it. the only thing that was ok was the TG when you get about 500 but for some of the higher missions I though it was rediculus. Just to make sure everyone knows the money issues I've only seen when I used my thief/assassin. My mage charactor though it's to easy to buy anything I want. My main concern is that I think they should have did a better job with rewards for quests and made it a little harder for money if you make potions and stuff. Well, that's my two cents worth that for all the junk I wrote I probably owe you. lol.
