New Multiplayer Game

Post by jDED »

Ok I am starting this thread to see if anyone is interested and would have the time to start a multiplayer game for SOA and TOB.
I am not sure how many are still active players since it is getting to be an aged game but the but the forum still seems somewhat lively.
I've never had the chance to play MP as none of my friends seem to share a passion for RPG's as I do and plus my PC is somewhat dated but I have no problems running BG2. So again I'm dying to start a team game so if anyone is willing or if someone could point me too another site that would be great!

I've tried gamespy but cant seem to get one going there...

I might be interested - it depends where you live/what kind of times you plan on playing though.

Also I work evening shifts so a few hours before work I am avalaible during the week say 11am-2pm my time.
Let me know if you would still be interested!

You should also state the specifics depending on what type of game you are looking for :

1) an xp limit with the characters that are being imported or is it just all level 7 characters.
2) items (if any) that can be brought into the game with the imported character
3) requirements that you may have regarding classes - e.g. an empty slot for a sorcerer to be filled
4) any mods installed also - as order of installation has been said to cause problems in another thread

Actually I'm pretty much open for anything... i like the extra quest mods and some of the ease of use options and I haven't tried tactics or the improved battles yet. Basically just looking to get a fun team game started if we want to start from the beginning with new characters, etc. Or bring in experienced PCs and mod the game to make a challenge that is fine.
Personally I prefer to play a mage or thief of some sorts so I would be looking to make a well balanced party so someone who likes to play some fighter types and or clerics would be cool.
Like I posted before I've never Multied Baldur's gate and would be very excited to get a game goin and can be relied on for set game times and flexibility...

I remember once having a party of 6 on multi-play that went through BG2 to TOB. It consisted of Wizard Slayer protaginist (me), Monk, Undead Hunter, Fighter/Assassin, Mage and an Archer.

What leads on is painful so you may want to bring some tissues along.

My first major challenge came in TOB, having not played it once and entered with the 6 npcs mentioned above. Illasera - no problem as the spell-casting failure nearly nullified here and 'my' crew were on top notch performance having feel chuffed about killing Irenicus. Gromnir, oh boy, was a tough one to knock down being backed up by mages. We split up, me vs gromnir, undead hunter and monk vs that assassin and spear woman. mage vs mage(s) and archer vs archer. I was getting beaten up sorely but the rest managed to beat the others and came to help me out as we all piled on him. Yaga Shura was more of a tussle, summons being sent every which way and my party holding a position digging in like a trench - something we were good at. Luckily all of us were badly injured but the mage kept sending summons of all sorts everywhere which was nice of him and the archer and assassin picked of those clerics and mages. Jamis was easy - having a back to me just send fireballs and arrows of detonation forward with wands of fireballs. And my crew picking off the stragglers.

Then, Balthazar and Sendai and Abazigal. My first casualty came against Abazigal, the assassin backstabbed him and he turned and cooked him - the one time he tried to be noble and he got fried for it (tearful moment). Needless to say there was an opening so some other guy came on with a berserker that seemed to be alot like Gromnir - same name and everything - some coincidence. As I headed to sendai, the onset of drow and slaves nearly took us, but we cleaved our way through, until sendai herself came at us. Everywhere were spawns and we stationed ourselves around to help the other restore their energy. But once she went down, she arose and her men came through and we had no-one left to face them but that stark-raving lunatic Gromnir who went in head-first and fought 5-7 of them by himself, a noble sacrifice ended by being ripped apart by drow scimitars. But the monk was able to kill Sendai before the drow came to us. Another casualty and suddenly doubts are arising if we can get the job done.

Then came a man asking us for help saving his daughter, the Undead Hunter wanted us to do it - playing true to his role I suppose. But when we came back and forth, the lich attacked us. The Undead Hunter fought the undead banshees and skeletons, but there were too many, even for all of us to save him, he was obliterated by the foul magic of the lich, another ally, friend lost.

Balthazar, brother, enemy, he told us what was going to happen then came at us. His innate fireball blew everyone save myself, at the time casting a Draw Upon Holy Might saved me. But then, he hit me, hard and I fell. My team tried to organize themselves, being scattered but to no avail - his monks and himself proving to be a formidable foe, but so to was our Monk, killing two of his men but to no avail, he came at us like a storm and defeated me. The protaginist died after throwing everything, trying everything, bows, potions, buffs but I lost, he won.

This was painful to me, more so was the fact that each of my former crew died, the Archer killed by the Eclipse party when we tried to start a new game with mods on. The mage killed by planetars, and lastly the monk - supposedly became rather powerful when the Oversight mod came out he went to kill Abazigal for killing his pal, needless to say the team he came with couldn't survive the 2 dragons and multiple drake batttles and they all fell.

Well thats my story. Point being - if you do decide to go ahead, make sure you bring along good guys that play their roles, assassin > evil etc.

After that party though I never feel that I will rekindle the glory of the 'Old Days' ya know. *tear appears in eye*

Enjoy the game but also be determined - go for the prize when you play and it will make the experience all the more worthwhile.

i might be interested, but only on the weekend though. i live in western so i'm one hour behind you, so when you want to start a game you have to tell me the exact time. Just to let you know, if you install tactic mod, it is a pain to make a new lvl7 starting character.

just one question, do you need the gamespy mutiplayer for this? Or TCP/IP is fine?
Got Question from BG series? NO PRoblem, ask BG_DaDDy, YAh.

One time I had TCP/IP accidentally on and someone jumped on the band-wagon accidentally so it should be fine, as all you need is an IP address of the person hosting.

Ok one more post here I guess before I give up...

Want to start a MP game on weekends for a group of at least 4 players to play through SOA and possibly TOB.

I would like it to be a New Game with new characters to develop.
Wanting to leave at least one slot open to pick up NPC's for quests.
I am open to anyone's must have MODS.
I prefer the XP cap remover as I think a cap is a silly thing.

Noobies and veteran Gaters are welcome.
