Likely dungeons for advanced alchemy gear (SPOILERS)

Post by fable »

That's what I'm looking for: dungeons where I might find something other than novice alchemical stuff in chests and on enemies. If you can give me any likely dungeon names and locations, I'd be obliged. Thanks.

Actually I found mine all in the pods in Oblivion and not a single thing in the forts. A friend of mine says Linchal, Istius, Teleman but how random this is I am not sure.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.

well i havent managed to track down the stats for oblivion yet but for eeverything else if you want to go for greatest probability then aylid ruins containing conjurers are your best bet, followed not very closely by vampire and necromanceraylid ruins.

in case you're wondering ive figured this out by looking at the probabilities for loot drops in different containers, and the various 'ConjurerChestAlyied' containers all pretty much have a chance of spawning levelled apperatus, boss ones significantly more so.

I've got to be honest with you, I looted most of the Aylied Ruins that I've come across and I have only managed to find 1 Apprentice level Apparatus in one of the ruins that happened to be inhabited by Necromancers. (And believe me, I've checked every Apparatus I've come across because I am also looking for higher level Apparatus'.)

I did however purchase all 4 Journeyman Level Apparatus from the Guilded Caraff in the Market District. I've been an Expert in Alchemy for quite some time now and thought for sure I'd see higher level Apparatus show up as my Alchemy Skill increased but so far that hasn't really been the case at all. You may also want to check the Main Ingredient if the Market District. --I'd hate to see you have to buy them like I did, but you can go there as a last resort. I'd be interested to see if anyone has come across consistent locations where these are located.

At higher levels, not higher skills, higher level apparatus appear in shops. I have found my mix of apprentice, journeyman, and expert apparatus in different dungeons one encounters through out the Theives Guild quest line.

Found a great site that shows all the Aylied sites--and anything else that's hidden on a map you might want, here.

Wow, thats a pretty sweet site. I like how that map actually has the Icons of each site along with the names of each site if you mouse over them, as opposed to just colored icons with a Legend explaining what each location is. Although, I do gotta give props to whoever designed the map on here: http://www.gamebanshee.com/oblivion/mapofcyrodiil.php It has definately come in handy when just looking around for Ruins to loot.

I think securing those advanced alchemy kits may also be level related. I've been running a level 5 character around the ruins slaying merrily, but only one alchemical part has shown up thus far, and it was novice.

I think I was at least 15+ before I got my first Master thing. Also luck probably has something to do with it. I still think the pods are a very good source for this.

Oh like I've said - fleshy pods in Oblivion (random Gates really, no particular location, and I've had duplicate items too), I found the whole set there, piece by piece. As for forts I guess those three I already mentioned would be a good place to look.

Hey Fable, perhaps i've found your place !
It is a quite dangerous place called "wizard's lair" (my translation for "tana dello stregone") which you can enter by:
- The giant door of the tower of Zero's shrine (but i fear it is closed)
- A secret passage somewhere in the castle of bravil (if you are interested i can re-look for this)
- A trap door on the bottom of the lake (the one i would suggest you)
you should be able to find it + or - in the "a" of "bay" on the map of cyrodill
but be careful you will need an item enchanted with water breathing or some potions and one last thing: beware of the fish ! ;)

There I found a master retort and a master alembic and i was lv 10 - 15
(can't remebmer the exact lv but elsewhere i keep finding novice kits now that I'm 25).

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. My current character is still a ways off from that level (he's only 5), so it's probably something to shoot for.

In the meantime, I've discovered an interesting mod (what else). It's called Dirennis Advanced Alchemy Apparatus, and I recall finding it up on TESSource. Here's the readme:

This mod adds a new set of alchemy equipment that was used by the great Asliel Direnni thousands of years ago. The new apparatus has a 125% effectiveness making for more potent and valuable potions and poisons.

The 4 pieces can be purchased at The Main Ingredient and The Gilded Carafe in the Imperial City, All Things Alchemical in Skingrad, and A Warlock's Luck in Bravil. (It's also worth purchasing the book "De Rerum Dirennis" at All Things Alchemical for the full story on this alchemy legend).

They are very expensive, with each part costing roughly 30,000 drakes, a piece. Still, interesting goods.

it is levelled though i havent figured out the maths yet.. still in terms of apparatus being found in chests and the like the following are all places that contain a chest which has a 25% chance of containing a piece of apparatus... :

ceyatatar x3
belda
beldaburo
varondo
sardavarleed
dark fissure
blood run cave
wendelbek x2
silorn x3
elenglynn
garlasagea
hame x2
mackamentain
nenyondtwyll

its worth noting that 25% is the best chance there is currently used in the game, adnd that they are findable in more places, just not at that percentage, the next step being 10% chances.

also ive used the names as they appear in the editor, so they may have broken up names in the game.

There is a cave infested with conjurers east of the Imperial City, just west of Vaermina's Shrine.
According to the the map @ http://nirnroot.cabspace.com/, its called Muck Valley Cavern, although I swear it was called *something* glade - maybe my memory is messed up, or maybe its just not on that map

Anyhow, its in that region somewhere, and I *think* it had a piece of master equipment.
Not sure if it was a random spawn, or not - it felt like it was pre-defined to me (it was in a locked chest, in a room full of other novice alchemic equpiment.)

I've had the best luck w/ Ayleid ruins.

At Lv. 18 I found a Master Mortar & Pestle and Retort, and Expert Calcinator and Alembic in Sardavar Leed (I'm pretty sure). Then in the very next ruin I looted (sorry can't for the life of me remember which) I found a Master Calcinator.

Also, try beefing your luck with potions/items before opening the door to the dungeon.

Hope this is helpful.

I know this is off topic but "tana dello stregone" is lair of the stregone in Italian.
