New way to lose a horse

Post by drontnet »

This one is pretty odd. I entered Bruma, leaving my horse outside (Prior Mabel's). When I get back a few minutes later, the horseshoe icon is red, and as soon as I mount it, a guard comes and arrests me.

I've tried to reload, but the same thing happens over and over again, even at different locations. And there is no mix up of horses either. I have tried to park the horse at pretty weird places, where no other horses could be found.

Anyone heard of this? Anyone knows what to do? A new one is only 500, but it's not so much about the money. I want to know what happens, and why. I sure don't want it to happen again so I have to buy a new horse every time I enter a town.

Have you actually BOUGHT that horse yourself, or is it originally stolen ? Your horse should allways look like "My black horse" etc...

Stolen Horse

Was this by chance the Prior's horse? If so this happened to me and I wondered if there was a time limit to the 'loan' after which the horse was regarded as stolen..

@BM and dot: Apparently it was. ;)

I say it's some kind of glitch due to the fact that it wasn't actually bought, it was got. I'd say you'll just have to lose it. :(

It just may be a different paint horse - it happened to me and then I found my horse and I found this one as well

Another possibility, it happenned to me when I was leading the scamps away. I finished that quest and the horse recognized me afterwards.

Loaned Horse *********SPOILERS**********
Was this by chance the Prior's horse? If so this happened to me and I wondered if there was a time limit to the 'loan' after which the horse was regarded as stolen..
I currently have three terms in prison. For stealing the Prior's horse (what can I say - first time through). Sometimes, I can be a bit thick. It took awhile to catch onto why the guards were hassling me. I believe that is a one-time loan, to get Martin to safety.
A better bet is to work your way through the Dark Brotherhood and get Shadowmere. Not only does he belong to you, he will fight at your side, he cannot be killed - not even by you (I didn't try to kill him - I had detect life and was shooting at anything that glowed), and he is arguably the fastest horse in the game (I haven't checked out the Unicorn yet). And it appears that nobody is willing to steal a demon-horse. The downside of that path is you have to murder somebody. The upside is that Shadowmere is the only horse in the game with red eyes, so he's hard to miss.

I came out the gate once and jumped onto the first painted horse I saw. The guard immediately stopped me for horse stealing. I discovered that this particular painted horse was NOT Prior's horse but another.

It's no new way to lose a horse. Always at Bruma theres a horse right outside the city gate that isn't Prior Mabels but it is still a painted horse. I have no idea why it's there. But its the same case for the Imperial City dock town, if you go up and head back towards the city from there, at the gate there there is another horse just standing there. At least thats how it is on my game. I've killed the thing like 4 or 5 times already and it keeps coming back to life. It's just a little glitch in the game I guess but theres no point to get worked up over it.

It's not a one time loan. I've had that horse follow me like I own it ever since, it's yours even though it does not register as such, since you didn't actually buy it. But if you took him/her when you were told to, it's legal, thus if you get nicked for that it's a bug.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.

Now I have noticed that there is a paint horse right outside Bruma (placed there only to provoke horse stealing?). But that was just a part of it. It happened at other locations as well.

For example, I got off my horse at Azura's Shrine. The horse started to walk away slowly, and when I returned to it it had a red horseshoe. If I didn't take it, and fast travelled somewhere, the horse didn't follow. The same thing happened at several caves and mines too so finally I gave in and bought me another horse.
