How do you kill a Will o the Wisp?

Post by Maximus38 »

I've tried different things but it seems to keep regenerating, and non-magical items seem to have no effect.
Suggestions much appreciated!

Eh... well, they are not the easiest things to kill, but keep hitting it with Destruction spells until it melts. Or enchanted weapons. Ordinary weapons are no good. Poison is no good. Disease is no good. And you can't paralyse the bu... er... things. It also absorbs your health and Magica, so you need to kill it as fast as you can. It is useful to have a good supply of Health Potions, Restore Magica Potions and Welkynd Stones (to restore magica fast). Then just keep whacking it with your enchanted weapon/hitting it with your best Destruction spells. Or both.

You can kill them with magical, or silver items. I'm always keeping a silver dagger in my inventory for these cases..

Well...don't worry about throwing anything away. You'll find that as you progess in level, the enemies you fight will also advance with you. As in, instead of fighting a Clannfear Runt...eventually you'll fight a Clannfear later. Also, in the beginning, a regular bandit was probably attacking you with a Iron Claymore, wearing iron armor, casted no spells, and just swung the sword...eventually, you'll run into battlemages that have Elvish armor, attack you with glass/elvish/dwarvish/silver weapons {like daggers}, and cast spells that can disentigrate your armor/weapons! It's a blast I assure you, so don't worry about "throwing that last silver weapon, now I have to buy one". Because you'll have lots coming to ya! :) Good luck!

Brief Hint:
As much as possible, throw nothing away. In fact, as tedious as it might be, after you've cleaned out a dungeon and packed away all the loot you can, go back and keep packing away loot until you have it all. Every last sock can be sold on the open market, and it's all spending cash.
Sometimes I spend whole days doing nothing but barter runs, selling off booty.
Oh, this is greatly facilitated by having your own house and organizing your loot by type (armor, weapons, scrolls, potions, ingredients, amulets and rings (enchanted and unenchanted), special stones, soul gems, ore, and miscellaneous.

And the cheapest house in the game is at Waterfront. It costs 2,000. Get storage first! Then Kitchen for another cupboard. This gives you 4 storage units. You don't need the rest on offer.

Actually, the cheapest is at Anvil. Perhaps a bit pricier off the hop, but comes fully furnished :D with tons of storage. Just a few ghosts...
Oh, and I do have the one in Llewaynn, too. I use the shack to store all my stolen goodies, and as a waystation for local hoarding runs before I transfer everything back to Anvil. (Honestly officer, with my mansion in Anvil, why would I even own a waterfront shack on the other side of the country full of stolen junk? Puhleeze!!)
Ok, you don't get that kind of dialog option, but I believe in playing to the role.

Heheh! Yeah, I owned all the available houses in one game, so I understand!

But now, I generally just take the one I already mentioned. It's enough. For me, anyway. :)

I like to RP as well. It's a pity we can't actually say what our character WOULD say to the NPCs.

But I guess I am off-topic.

Hah!

Gentlemen, I think we "got off topic" about 6 posts ago! :D lol ...heh heh... I have to agree with both of you though, especially Mr. "Earth, Wind, and Fire"...(I wonder if it took a while for others to understand your name..?). Mainly when it comes down to storage available, though. When it comes to hoarding stuff to sell, I usually just take the stuff that's actually worth "it's weight in gold", if you know what I mean? Usually the crap like pants, shirts, and REALLY heavy crap that's not really worth a whole lot, I'll leave it there, and take the stuff that's worth alot, and actually "worth it's weight in gold". I'm keeping a pretty steady budget :) Only have two houses (Anvil and Leyawin (sp??)), and I seem to be pretty good at it too. :) But on the subject of mercantile...I'll lave that for another thread... ;) Happy Hunting!

If we're going off topic, I'm closing this thread. ;)
