The forum does seem faster after more use and I still can't hit the front page it is not acting any different from the last two weeks, stalling.

Which browser are you using? I've just tried it again and it loaded faster than most sites and there was no stalling at all.

It definetly loads much faster, good work Buck :) .

I never use the homepage, but decided to go there to see if I had the problem too. It appears I do, with the thing having not loaded yet. Instead it simply shows the top frame, the part constant on all pages.

I use Windows XP, Mozilla Firefox. Then, when I tested with IE, it worked perfectly fine.

Same 3 different browsers listed in my previous post in this thread.

"I tried IE, Netscape 7.2 and Netscape 8.1 (Netscapes are basicly FireFox code), this included with and without ZoneAlarm incase some new script didn't get along with ZA."

Has the main page changed addresses or something, like I said it is doing the same thing it has for the last 2 weeks?
I am trying http://www.gamebanshee.com

Ok here is a link to my destop trying to load GameBanshee, it takes about 3 minutes of constant downloading (see my taskmanger) to get a partical page and never seems to complete.
If I am receiveing/downlaoding so much constant data where the hell is it going and why so much data?

This only happens on GameBanshee of the 20 or more gamesites I visit a day, mind you I am not complaining, I am just trying to provide as much useful info as possible.

While I guess my statement of it doing the same thing now as the last two weeks is not entirly correct, since it's loading half a page, at it's worst it would'nt load at all.

Thanks.

I would download firefox and give it a try. I've had no problems with the site and I use that. Meh, dunno what to tell you otherwise.

What I said ealier still holds true for me.

When I''m *not* logged in, I can view the frontpage (albeit it isn't loading terrible fast).

When I'm logging in or am already logged in, I can not view the front page.

It happens in all browsers as mentioned by me ealier and it has nothing to do with the browser, I would seriously think it is a serverside code/SQL issue.

Each time I enter when logged in, the page loads slowly and output rendering seem to stall/stop shortly after the "Advertise With Us!" link.

Code: Select all

  <tr>
          <td width="17" height="18"><img src="/gb_imgs/misc/bullet.gif" width="17" height="7" /></td>
          <td width="143"><a href="http://www.gamebanshee.com/sitefeatures/advertisinginfo.php" class="whitel">Advertise With Us!</a></td>
        </tr>
        <tr valign="top"
This is where it stopped trice in a row for me now.
The HTML up to this point looks okay (nested proberly etc), but I've not checked it that intensely, but after that link - it stops.

Same as Siberys. No problems on my part here. Able to access the GB page. Used both Firefox and IE by the way.

"I would download firefox"

Thanks for the idea, though Firefox is fianced by Netscape and once code is tested and solid it goes into Netscape. :)

It is clearly not just me, IE or Netscape having problems. :)

I have done most all the testing I can think of from this end now and when I orginally first found and started the thread about this problem, in the "Trouble connecting to GB front page.".

I thought that AOL-Time Warner bought over the Mozilla some time back? And I also thought that the newer Netscape browsers are based on the Firefox code.

Please, lets stay on topic here.

As I've said - I have problems, and Netscape, Opera, IE or FireFox all have the issue.
It is *not* browser specific, and I doubt it is browser related.

Are you having this problem with any pages other than the homepage? The code is nearly identical for all of our subsite homepages, too, so it doesn't make sense to me why only the homepage would be affected. For example, can you load the Oblivion index? Or how about the Titan Quest index?

For what it's worth, every single page loads instantly for me, regardless of which PC, internet connection, or browser I use. Even when I travel, my laptop loads all pages without any problem.

Might not be significant but I thought I would mention that I have been getting Data Base errors in the last half hour or so and GB has been running slow again. It seems I am not alone

Both of those pages load very fast, Buck.
I wish I had the answer, bud. :(
It has something to do with hitting the front page and the login server, is my best guess.

All of the login code is contained in a file called loginbox.php and that file is called from every page of the site, including the homepage. It doesn't make any sense to me why the login code would cause a problem on just one page out of thousands.

The only code that's really different on the homepage is for the poll and the "latest forum threads" section, so I'm considering disabling those areas to see if it fixes the problem. I'm going to check a few other things before I go down that route, though.

I'm getting this problem as well in all browsers. Maybe it has to do with our ISPs? I'm using Comcast. What ISPs is everyone using that has this problem?

Sounds good, Buck and I really appreciate all your efforts. :GBcheer: :)

I doubt it is our ISPs, it would mean they are blocking Java Scripts (?) on somepages but not others or Blocking access (though sloppilyat this point) to some specfic IPs to Major Sites but not there subsequent pages, both of which would be a huge problem for the ISPs, not only in techsupport but in Customer Service (all the complaints).

Especially considering GB is not responsable for any intended mischief or crime that would warrent such behavior.

Well except for the Quaterly Neked Teen Cheerleader Westling and Gymnastics Baby Oil Championships and of course the Hot Teen Runnaways Placement Services for Geeks, they sponser.
Though I thought they Offshored the Corprate Offices in Sipan, so there is no way it could be traced back to Buck. :p

In case it does matter Time Warner Road Runner Service here. ;)

Do you use an ad blocker? Its just a thought but when my ad blocker/pop up blocker blocks ads from this site I have trouble acessing stuff, but a while back I decided to allow ads/pop ups on the gamebanshee site and never had a problem since. The majority of the problems I had were with trying to access popup windows on the equipment databases but I noticed the other day that when accessing the main page I get a pop up ad so it may have something to do with the ads. This is just speculation on my part though.

I have issues both from work and private in all the mentioned browers (IE, Firefox, Opera and Netscape, guess I could try our mac as well :) )

Considering the code where I stop rendering the frontpage given my two earlier replies - I'd say to try and start with disableing the poll on the front page first. That's where I'd personally start trying to debug it. And yes - it is only the front page, not any of the subpages I've tried.

A problem as this can't be ISP related. Besides, I have the problem via 2 different ISP.

I don't run add-blocking on GameBanshee, and don't even have any installed for IE, Opera and Netscape.

What Xandax said made sense to me, as I wasn't logged in IE when it worked. I logged out in Mozilla, went to the main page, it worked perfectly fine. Logging in, it doesn't work anymore.

And yeah, all other main pages work fine.
