sphere demon heart - the demon does not want to give it

Post by johnnybravo1 »

to complete Mr Valyagar`s quest I need to obtain a demon heart. I have found the place where there are two demons (and their hearts) but evey weapon i use on them is useless. i try to breach them, using haste in all my party first, and after this try every available offensive spell, arrow, bolt, magic or normal sword. My party has a fighter (main character, a mage/thief (Jan), Jaheira, Valyagar, Anonem and Minsc.
I can not even stun those creatures.
How do I extract a heart (and kill them)?

I'm usually playing mage-heavy parties. Here's the spells I used vs those deamons :

Mage1 : Contingency, Mirror Image, Stoneskin, Fireshield Red, Lower Resistance, Magic Missiles, Skull Trap
Mage2 : Contingency, Mirror Image, Stoneskin, Fireshield Red, Pierce Magic, Breach, Magic Missiles, Skull Trap
Cleric : Chaotic Commands, Heal, Harm, Armor of Faith, Summon Undeads and the most important of all... BOLT OF GLORY!

Out of the deamon's sight - Preparation Phase

Mage 1 & 2 - Fireshield Red, Stoneskin, Mirror Image. Contingency (Stoneskin; Condition - Mage Hit)
Priest : Chaotic Command (3x), Armor of Faith, Summon Skeletton Warriors (5x)

Battle Start - Weakening the Deamon's resistances/protections

Mage1 - Lower Resistance
Mage2 - Pierce Magic
Cleric - Harm

Mage1 - Lower Resistance
Mage2 - Breach
Cleric - Attempt to land Harm. (If it works, finish him off with 2x magic missiles, else just keep reading)

Mage 1 - Magic Missiles
Mage 2 - Magic Missiles
Cleric - Bolt of Glory

Mage 1 - Magic Missiles
Mage 2 - Magic Missiles
Cleric - Bolt of Glory

... keep shooting Magic Missiles and Bolts of Glory. Theses should do the trick. If out of Bolts/Magic Missiles, try using Fire Arrows (Mage 3 spell) and the lvl 3 Clerical spell Holy Blight (or w/e it's called... the party-friendly fireball thingy!)

Good Luck!

EDIT : Ooops... just saw you mentionned your party members in your post. Alright...
My party has a fighter (main character, a mage/thief (Jan), Jaheira, Valyagar, Anonem and Minsc.
You seem to have a kinda Fighter-Heavy party (wich I dont really like, but whatever...).

Try to use Slay Living / Harm with Anomen. With his Fighter/Cleric thac0, he hits very often. Also use Skeletton Summons with him.

Use Jan to cast : lower resistance, pierce magic, breach. Then fire magic-missiles. Lots of them!

Jaheira could then use her insect spells. Also, use her summons (Fire Elementals!) and then make her fight and TANK him (if summons aren't doing well) with Ironskin on (memorizing 2 is a must).

Your main Character, Minsc and Valygar should make themselves useful, using their best weapons (highest enchantement).

Try to use spells such as (Improved?) Haste, Chaotic Command and Defensive Harmony to protect your party from the Deamon's powers.

Trying to casts spells on those demons is a nightmare, they have a tendancy to use their chilling gaze to paralyse and kill any casters. The best bet is to use as many protection spells as possible like Mantra, Bless, Stoneskin, Protection from Evil, Holy Armour and other spells then just attack.

Summoned units will help a huge degree and if you have mages use things like Melf's Minute Meteors (never leave home without it).

If the fight against the two demons is too hard, there is one demon on its own (with a few mephits/imps) if you turn NW as soon as you leave the sphere and its easier than the fight against the two main ones in the centre of the area.

If you go for this one, send in a few area effect spells before you rush in as these will usually kill off the imps/mephits etc. and make sure you have freedom of movement/protection from paralysation on your main attackers as the demon will cast hold spells etc. Use a spell caster to cast lower resistance etc. followed by magic missiles, use clerics to cast harm or, if you have it, bolt of glory (or whatever it is called). It may also be a good idea to haste your party and make sure your fighters have the best weapons equipped and let them keep the demon busy.

I don't remember ever having many problems with the demons in that area, though usually I leave the Planar Sphere until Chapter 6.
I probably use +3 weaponry if I can get ahold of it...and a couple of Death Wards + Protection From Fear...standard fare against Tanarrii demons...

Believe it or not, DOOM combined with Holy Smite is an incredibly powerful spell combination against these demons. I used it to a large extent with Aerie and Jaheira (back when I played long ago) and just whooped on them.

Best of luck!

A couple of Lower Resistance followed by Jan's skull bolt actually stopped one of those monsters right in its tracks, for me. Then I spelled it to death with Magic Missiles, Melf's Meteors, and one of those damage rings.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Demons immunities...

Most, if not all Demons, are immune to +1 weapons or have a high damage reduction to +1 weapons. I recommend +3 weapons or better if you really wanna make a mark.
