@fiona It shouldn't do that, some kind of malfunction it must have been.

Hmmm.... is this a temporal loop? Are you perchance a younger incarnation of dragon wench?
If it is Firefox that needs to update, you can backup all of your data to make sure you don't lose it.
Go to this directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\<YourNameHere>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
Copy the profile directory to someplace else (your desktop is as good a place as any). Then run the update. Once the update is complete, close all Firefox windows, then open Firefox again. If your settings or bookmarks got messed up, copy the profile directory that you backed up back to the original location and it will put everything back.

Also, if you would like to turn off the Automatic Update, do this:
Tools menu >> Options >> Advanced tab >> Update tab:
Uncheck all three checkboxes.
This way if you want Firefox to update, you can do it manually.
Thanks Dar, I will try
I bought this external hard drive thingy you were talking about before but I have not been feeling brave so I havent tried to put it in yet. What about if I try what you say and that at the same time? At least it can't do it twice then, can it?
