Strongholds?

Post by jdougan1 »

The more I read in this forum, the more I realize how much I missed in my first run through the game.... Still, I enjoyed the not knowing what was coming next...

Just what is a stronghold, and what does it do?

I played through as a Ranger, and completed all of the Umar Hills quests. The mayor told me that I was welcome to use the cabin as I liked... Was this my stronghold? It didn't seem to be too useful - just an out-of-the way place to sleep safely for free and to store excess gear. Was that all there was to it?

Yes you can store gear there. But did you not, after receiving the cabin, get messengers asking you to deal with problems in the hills? Further quests await you, and bigger rewards at the end.

Having a stronghold = more responsibilities.

Well, yes - I did receive messengers for more quests, and I did complete those quests. Eventually, though, all of that settled down and nothing additional happenned for the rest of the game. Every time I was in town, I would check with the Mayor that all was going well, and he told me all was quiet. I think my journal even said "I expect things will be calm from now on..." I certainly never received any followers or extra cash - just the cabin.

Did I miss something, or is this just the lonely lot of a ranger?

Yes - the Moondog - quite useful in the early to mid game, I musy say... I hadn't associated the figurine with a stronghold - just as a reward for quest completion.

Hard bugger to keep, though. If you rest while your inventory is full but before the figurine pops back to your inventory, then the item is left behind (with no warning that an item is left on the ground). I had to backtrack to recover the silly thing more than once.

That is the final ranger quest (and it is linked to your stronghold!).

Thats it. Finito and you didn't even know it!

Lots of people have trouble dropping their figurines. Dump that extra gear in your stronghold Image

So after comleting all the quest you use the stronghold as a warehouse only right?
Vicsun, I certainly agree with your assertion that you are an unpleasant person. ~Chanak

I have just gone to Hell, so I guess I am close to the end. I am 105 days into the game. What puzzles me is that I have never had any subquests related to my stronghold. I just collect the rent from the D'arnise keep (I am a fighter). I thought there was meant to be an invasion or something. did I do something wrong, or am I just (un)lucky?

Aaaaghh! I was talking to the wrong guy in the keep. I always spoke to the man in armour by the drawbridge. He told me everything was OK for week after week. Now I have missed all those quests. Just have to play again I guess.
