Listen to the Droid Planet (SPOILERS??)

Post by walterd140 »

Rainy day in Mass, so I decide to putt around in my KOTOR2 folder & found conversations from the droid planet!!
The path is "Drive"/KOTOR2 Game Folder/Streamvoice/298. Also 299. There are multiple folders there that have sound bytes. When played in series, you can get enough info to hear what's going on. These are the folders for the voices for the droids & seems that HK is the one to step off on this planet. They are frotified against jedi, but not droids, so most of the defenses are useless.

Had to use neromedia to open the wav. files, not sure why. Maybe my 'puter is acting up.

Sorry if this is old news to some, but thought I would share....

Thanks for the discovery, Walter. :) Its just too bad that I've deleted KOTOR 2 from my system a while back to make way for more newer games. :( It would have been nice to listen to them.

Not sure Leet. My windows media player & realplayer would not open them either. If you click on it, go to the 'open with' line & maybe try all your sound playing files. That's how I had to get them to play. Just be careful the little box that says 'always use this to open this file' is un-checked so you don't change any system settings.

Droids are nervous because the lift started but no organics are detected on the planet / base. Scan all droids & find a HK-47. Talk about how obsolete it is & it's not a threat, but they want it to tear down & use it's components. There is also a class on language interpertation you seem to stumble on. Funny stuff! Droid teacher speaks like an Ithorian, then interperts the message in basic to say "This Ithorian says his herd wants to take over your planet & cause economic damage" :) Then another line translated from Twikie says "This Twikie says you are beautiful & wants to buy you as a slave" (must be aimed at female character). Also an interrigation class that has a too willing HK unit getting tortured.

I don't suppose you could give a summary of some of the things that are going on (spoiler protected?),as I've always wondered.

I've heard that there is a fan-produced patch which adds the droid planet. Does anyone know 1) where it is 2) how I install it as I am not Teh Puter Geek 3) does it do any harm to the game (I've tried patches that make the game unwinnable as they intoroduce bugs)

i stumbled upon this site tubertarian.com; scurvacious and delicious the other day it has transcripts of some of the cut content, and some sound clips re-configured to play.

it's a lot darker than the remainder of kotor2, and it seems like it would have changed how the game is played signifigantly.

*sigh* what might have been...

That's pretty cool stuff I just don't have time to read all of it. Man, if they only Obsidian just worked on it a little longer.....

i'm not sure it was obsidian's fault, seeing some of the above transcripts, i wonder how much stuff they were told to take out by lucasarts.

Quite. Obsidian shouldn't get so much of the blame for the way KOTOR2 turned out. Look at this way: they improved a lot of the features from the first one; they made a darker, more intricate plot with more open-ness in the way the game could be played. Then, it was rushed to the stores. But as files like these show, all the stuff was there to make the ending as good as the rest of the game.

But KOTOR 2's storyline just isn't as complete as KOTOR 1. The game would be alot better if they had left the cut content in.Obsideon did a great job with the game. But the game could be perfect greatly. ( With bugs and cut content and things that don't make sense) :)

Well that raises a question then. If Lucasart states it does not have a problem with folks modding the game, then what is stopping Obsidirn from getting all this lost content BACK into it & reselling as KOTOR2.5????? I myself would purchase another set of discs just to get the full experience. Or, how about an update for the existing game? One that would open the lost content? It's been what... 2 years since part 2 came out?

For the PC version, KOTOR 2 came out somewhere around early 2005, if I recall correctly, and the XBox version somewhere around late 2004. Anyway, while I do appreciate what the guys at the Sith Lords Restoration Project is doing to restore cut content, I have a question that lingers in my mind for a while. How come Obsidian isn't doing anything? Why can't they release another version of KOTOR 2 with the inclusion of the additional content cut from the original game? Lionhead did something like this by releasing another version of Fable titled Fable: The Lost Chapters that included additional content to expand on where Fable was supposed to end.

But however, since it's been a year since KOTOR 2 was released, it would be a bit pointless to do something like that, given that the excitement over KOTOR 2 would have died down by then and not many people would be interested in playing the same game even with the additional content included in it. Just my opinion but that's my genuine gut feeling.

I would buy a whole game if they did that! I don't know about you all, but if they came out with it I think the hipe would come back. :)

Lucasarts doesn't have a problem with fans modding the game; I'm pretty sure they feel differently about someone (ie. Obsidian) doing it for profit...

But for most people, they wouldn't be too keen on replaying a game even with the additional content. I for one wouldn't be interested in playing the same game even with additional content. If Obsidian/Lucasarts had done that a few months after KOTOR 2's release, just like what Lionhead did with Fable: The Lost Chapters a few months after the release of Fable, then the hype would still be around but since it's been a year after KOTOR 2 was released, I'm not sure if people will still be interested by then.

Well, since the KOTOR licence is under Lucasarts, Obsidian will still have to go through Lucasarts in order to release their game, as long as the game they're making is under the KOTOR series. So, if they want to make a KOTOR 2 with the additional content, then Lucasarts will still be able to make a profit from the sales aside from Obsidian Entertainment.

this makes the assumption that lucas arts didn't tell obsidian to remove the content in the first place.
