dragon egg quest
help where can u find the dragon egg cause i'm lost!!! any landmarks??
Directions To Fire Drakes
Start at the Apothacary in Arindale. Go north down the hill, then turn due west untill you cant go any farther. Turn to the north and follow the mountan around a couple of bends (just keep the mountan on your left) pretty soon you will come to the Diamond alter. Here , there be dragons! just look around for the nests, there are 2 treasure chests snuggled amougst them. I was really disapointed by the AI in the drakes.
some tips for fighting the Fire Drake.
get the best ranged weapon you can find.
get the crystal "Divine Intervention" in fact , get a bunch of them as they are the most powerfull beings you can summon IMHO. They provide offensive fire support with their spells of lightning as well as their swords. They also provide excellent distraction as they can fly with the dragon and perform arial attacks and soften up the target, drawing his attention away from you.
Lightning is also a good spell to get a bunch of and use on the drakes.
Dont waste your time with any fire based attacks (duh) as they do no damage.
It might also be worth your while to get the ctystal "Blessed Sprit" This is a cleric that heals your wonds in battle.
If you cannot get the crystals listed. (they are available from the temple in fargrove once you are able to re-enter it after leaving for Arindale.) then use this tactic.
Get the drake to chaise you, head for dimond alter,(you need to get the drake to chaise you out of his territory so his friends dont show up and you are not forced to fight 2 at once) Once out of drake land, find a bunch of trees and get them (and keep them) between your hapless avitar and the fire breathing drake. Begin shooting and strafing (if nessisary) shoot, roll (if the fire balls are coming from around the tree, repeat ans rinse. Be sure you are close to it when it dies, jump into its body and grab its tooth. For some reason if your not standing right there when it dies, the tooth disolves with the body. You get a giant advancement bonus (250,000 i think) once you clear this area out, save the game, quit, go to options and check random encounters, set it to more, then just run around till one shows up. Be warned however, there will be lots of snakes so bring potions with you.
Heh, I'm a goober, look in the nests for the eggs
That's what I was thinking - great post, too bad he didn't answer the question
In terms of Drake Hunting, I also like using 'Winter' weapons - I'm a mage and had a Winter Staff and Winter Dagger ... both of these do wonderful damage *and* freeze the drake. So does alternating Iceball and Ice melee attacks.
But early on in the game, they can be quite a pain to encounter.

bringing up an old thread as I am trying to get the dragon eggs...
So whats the deal? I am trying to get an egg after placing the horn of galdryn and I'm about level 12 Rogue/Mage. I have read this guide but I don't think I can do this as I definately have none of the adept items or powers. Also I have had such bad luck against the dragons.
I probably couldn't get to the darn nests even without the dragons as they are on top of hills that I need to jump up (apparently). Meanwhile 1 or 2 dragons swoop on me and barbecue me as I try to jump up the stupid hill.
Should I come back later? I have already got the budoka class in grey so I assume if I rescue someone (budoku quest) I will still get the class even though I have no egg. Of course eventually I want the egg for closure but then maybe I'll have a little surprise for the dragons hehehe. Will it let me take buduko without egg?

Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
I think not only can't you do the buduka, you can't get the main quest for the game, with the woman at the inn, which leads to trail of elders, ulm, so forth, and so on.
So you can't buy a crystal ward of fire from the temple in Arindale?
If not, it's going to be really tough. I've grabbed the egg with so low a level as 7 or 8 with the ward of fire.
Try hugging the left side of the mountain all the way around, usually there's at least 1 nest empty. Usually in the middle of the 3 nests.
Run and save!

I don't know what you guys are talking about...
To get the egg, run. No jumping involved, just run... if a hill is to steep around the nests, you're running at it from the wrong direction, there are at least 5 ways up to each nest, just stay on the peaks/crests where any 2 slopes meet. Of course, maybe because I apply one or two levels of athletics to any new character once I'm past the sewers it's easier for me to run around the land?
Getting hit too often by Drake fire? Run in a bit of a zig zag pattern and the drakes *all* miss you with their slow moving fireballs: zoom out your view to be able to easily miss/sidestep the balls of fire, the only ones that might hurt you are from splash damage (when they hit ground or an object near you). Think in terms of the area around you and not what's in front of you (if a drake is to your left, the fireballs will come towards your current location from that direction in basically a straight line -- so any direction but immediately left or immediately right will make those fireballs miss you.)
If I can run and get an egg *before* doing the trial of the elders with a noob mage character you can do it with anything... Although, you probably will want to complete the Trial of the Elders to get that extra exp boost to deal with the spiders and snakes on your way to the drakes or on your trip back.
Also, if you're low level and you want to kill a drake to get the hefty chunk of exp from one (or two if you're patient and lure another one out for a second whack of gigantic exp for your low level), just retreat smartly until the persuing drake eventually hovers behind a tree branch (it will no longer advance on you, and as long as you're out of it's firebreath range you have ample time to avoid it's fireballs). You then just range it with either shuriken or throwing daggers (only need level 4 or 5 to hit 3-5). Moving left and right while you range it (you'll easily watch the 3 fireballs coming and know well ahead of time to go left or right or not move at all...) will take you about 8-10 minutes to kill one ...3 to 5 points at a time. You do not want to try to mele a drake at low levels, you just dont have strong enough freeze spells/weapons or high enough fire resistance.
** And DON'T stand in front of a hill or a tree when ranging one, stand on the crest of a hill so none of the fireballs can hit you with splash damage...
Seriously though, it's rather easy to get 1 or 3 eggs in a single run. The drakes have far too stupid an AI to chase you for long, and they spit fireballs so slowly you can easily miss almost every blast coming your way. You can then go back and kill a few for that giant exp after you get your reward for the egg and complete the trial.
Am I an expert at the game? Heck no! I just started a second character after getting my Fighter/Thief to around level 17 and then wanting to try a mage/witch build. But the drakes are really easy to deal with if you just run and use your head. (Yeah you might use a heal pot or two when you get splashed by fire but it's certainly not a big deal.)
Another tip? You might not want to make an Elf Female character if it's your first time doing the egg run. Otherwise, if you're anything remotely aproaching a verile male, you'll spend half your time watching that splendidly rendered rear end wiggle back and forth as she runs around on your screen...

sounds good. Also sounds like its not hard to get up the hills. This surprises me as I am totally stuck at the bottom of a valley or ravine. There are chests along this ravine and the nests are at the top. Each nest has a dragon above it. And there seem to be 3 - 6 drakes total in the area.
Was I supposed to run along a ridge to get to the nest? Is it bad to go in ravine?

I don't know, it's hard to explain so maybe I'll take a moonbridge over there and fraps (make a video) 30-60 seconds of running to get an egg with a low level char?
I never follow the cliff walls, that often gets me stuck on the wacky objects in this game. I just go directly up the middle (heading south) of the main valley, between the two mounds, and straight to the middle nest and then run away pretty much the same way I went in.
The drakes can't hit you on your way in through the middle because of the two hills on either side of you which are in their line of fire.

I also discovered that you can get access to eastern classes without the dragon quest (for the record). You do have to wait for the way of the tiger quest to be complete (restore murako's honor).
I'm gonna wait till my current char has some serious power then kill all those darn dragons.

I done this quest today at level 7.. all u need to do is follow thepath u see on the map (in the X shape) and run up towards the nests... when u cant go any further without jumping then u need to run back down and go to either side as that way u can run straight thru all the nests... i done that and grabbed 3 eggs and didnt get hit once.
