First Dialogue with head Master: Glitch??

Post by Spectator6 »

Hey Guys! I've been coasting through my first game of Fallout and I finally managed to get to the Master by talking to Morpheus in the cathedral tower. Luckily I saved the game nearby because I seem to have ran into a slight problem that either should or shouldn't exist...

Whenever I talk to the Master (VERY cool voice overs by the way, props to Interplay for its unbounding creativity and quality!) I've run through quite a few dialogue streams but I always end up having to fight him. And what I've noticed is that on one of the dialogue patterns, I tell him that I have the Brotherhood backing me up and he responds that whether I'm telling the truth isn't important and that he will let me leave for now. HOWEVER, right after I click to end his statement, it flashes to the gameplay screen and then IMMEDIATELY jumps back into a new dialogue with the Master. And he's saying something like "You're joking right?" And from there it skips around a bit until eventually I'm fighting him (and with my measly 72 hp, get torn to shreds).

Now, my question is whether or not this is supposed to happen or if there's a glitch in the game that's keeping him from letting me actually leave (like he says he is). It never lets me gain control of my character after he says he'll let me leave, it just enters into a new discussion that "forces" me to fight him.

Any help? Am I doing something wrong? Should I be trying to get to discover the "mutant laboratory" another way? There are so many different things you can do in this game and I'm sure I haven't discovered half of them yet, so please try to not answer with any spoilers. A simple, "Yes that's supposed to happen, keep searching around for another way" or "Don't try and get to him through Morpheus" or even "Don't worry about the Master for now, try and get more info on X" something general would be great, that way I can be surprised when I find it for myself =)

PS I seem to have cleared out the Military Base and all its levels. The only place I've not managed to get to is a set of computers on the first level that are blocked on both sides by green forcefields that do not have control panels next to them (at least not from the "outside"). Is this room important? Did I overlook something?

Currently, one of my quests is from vault 13 command telling me to find where the mutants are being made. Ummm... I've talked to the main brotherhood of steel guy and he's the one that actually sent me to the base with a few other backups. I don't think I've completed what he's said just because he doesn't seem to ever change his statements when I come back to chat with him...

Thanks for all the help guys! I realize I'm a noob at this game and that a lot of the confusion may come from the simple fact that I'm not used to playing within the boundaries of such an old title. Need anymore info, just let me know =)

its been some time, so I am not 100% sure.
But I think that you would need to fight the master if you go see him.

But there are other ways to defeat him if you can't fight him face to face.

About the green forcefields, isen't it them you can use your Repair skill at the forcefield, and if you try enough they should open, or it might only be the brown ones.

So you're saying that there are other ways to meet the Vault 13 commander's objective of locating where the mutants are made than following the cathedral-->Master path?

And yeah, you're right about the forcefields. Each one has a sort of control panel bar next to it that if you repair enough, the green field will eventually be diasabled. But you can't walk up to a forcefield and repair the actual forcefield itself, only the control box thing. And this little area is shut off by two green fields that don't have control boxes you can access. It's probably no big deal if it's not ringing a bell for you =)

Thanks for the help Foss.

Anyone else familiar with the cathedral path to the Master? Is he supposed to never actually let you go like he says he will?

Well, the vault 13 commander's objective is 2 fold, and I think you already have completed the first. The one where you have to locate where the mutants are being made. There should have been a movie sequence aswell when you completed that.

The other objective is where you seems to have some problems. You can't kill the Master or get away from him when you first meet him.
I still don't know if he is suspossed to let you go.
But there is another way to kill him than facing him.

ahh, Perfect! Thanks Foss! I guess I've not yet found where the mutants are made because I've never seen a sequence about it =)

That makes me feel a lot better, I was beginning to doubt whether or not I was playing hte game properly

NP :-)

But, of the things you have wrote so far, it still seems like you should have completed the quest where the mutants are made. (though that would be a spoiler, so I won't explain that unless you want me too.
But, I can't remember it 100% either, so it might just be me. :-)

Hey Foss, I went back through the military base and I found what you were talking about =) So I went in a destroyed the vats with an explosive...

Now, though, it seems that when I go back to the cathedral, Morpheus already has his gun drawn and it's bad news bears after that (the "invisible" mutants come and clean me up with a mop).

SO, thanks for the help, now I'm off to try and find another way to the master...

I think that it is possible join to Master, but after that You will see alternative over and cutscene and game is over.

P.S. Some people in Polish plains made MOD for F1 which will add capability of continuation of game for a Master and will add new quests for "dark side" (like crush BS and others).
