Post by Angelis »

I run into a troll on my journey to visit some orcs and my party end up fighting the troll and well just cant seem to kill it. The troll sit down, regenerate himself and then it back to fight again. Are we meant to kill the troll or is something else suppose to happen?

Spoiler- Highlight to read-
Spoiler
Trolls can only be officially killed with fire, and depending on how NWN works it's version of the 3.5 dungeons and dragons rules, acid would posssibly work too.
Listen up maggots, Mr. Popo's 'bout to teach you the pecking order.
It goes you, the dirt, the worms inside of the dirt, Popo's stool, Kami, then Popo.

Spoiler - Uncover :
Spoiler
Trolls can be killed with Acid and Fire in NWN2. Was killing them with acid the other day. Only works if they are already out of HP, and kneeling on the ground though.

Spoiler
Ah, so it is a kind of coup de gace effect? As in, I can drain their health with anything, but I have to deal the deathblow with fire or acid?

Yes.....
Spoiler
think of the trolls regeneration as turning all of your blows that do not deal fire or acid damage as being turned to punches and kicks. It is simply a matter of time until they succumb to the brutal beating and go unconscious. Soon it will get up and be ready to tear you apart again. It's all non-lethal damage to them, things they regenerate. Fire or acid however, deals them damage that they cannot regenerate, and is therefore lethal.

The thing to keep in mind is that, even though you can kill them by dropping them and then dumping acid or fire on the body....every time you use fire or acid on them while they are still kicking means they won't be able to heal that damage. It slows the regeneration process, and makes them go down faster. So, if they are dealing heavy damage, bust out your acid and fire magic or flasks. Just hold a few in reserve to finish the deed.

*shrugs* Some people might consider them to be spoilers. Better safe than sorry idealogy I suppose. It took me all of 10 seconds to do the spoiler code, so why not do so just in case?

Because it's revealing an aspect of the game. Personally, I HATE seeing something from the game that I haven't figured out yet. With the trolls, the answer is found in the text occasionally while entering a new zone, but, nonetheless, I'd still consider it a spoiler.

Ummm yeah

You all do realize that you cant sit through a region loading more than maybe 3 times before the little loading screen says "you need fire or acid to finish off a troll" right??

This is not a spoiler or secret or anything special... it is in the manual, several hints around the game elsewhere - a major part of D&D lore.

Yes, fire good.

You do comprehend that a large number of people who post here neither read the manual, the loading screens, check the options for keyboard controls or do any investigation of their own before playing the game, right? Not to mention, not everyone that plays a DnD based game happens to play DnD, or even have played a similar game before. To someone new to a DnD based game that would be a spoiler.

Yeah, never fails to amaze me how many people ask questions they'd know the answers to if they read the game manual. And it's gotta be faster to read the manual than to wait around for a reply on a forum...

Also true. I played my first games without any knowledge of DnD. Then I started playing Virtual PnP DnD on a games forum. ;)
