Baldurdash---bug fixes?

Post by probe53 »

There is a "mod" called Baldurdash's FixPack and English language update. Those should only fix bugs and language errors not addressed by the offical patch right?

so basicly those should be the "latest" patches?

The Baldurdash FixPack and game text (dialogue) update are what you might call unofficial bug fixes. Many of the people who make mods which add new items, characters, or features to the game assume that most players have installed Baldurdash, so it's a good idea to install it before you install any mods.

Here is the recommended installation order:

BG2: Shadows of Amn
Throne of Bhaal
Official Throne of Bhaal Patch
Baldurdash FixPack
Baldurdash English-Language Game Text Update

You shouldn't run into any major problems if you install all of that. With that being said, however, there are still hundreds of minor errors in the game files, or "bugs". Most of them are things you probably wouldn't worry about even if you knew about them, unless you wanted the game to be absolutely "perfect". For example, some of the weapons don't exactly match their descriptions. For instance, the description for Energy Blades says they inflict 1d6+5 piercing damage, but they actually inflict 1d6+5 slashing damage. It won't make the game crash, but it's a mistake. In other cases, some of the dialogue doesn't appear like it should due to script errors, and there are some "exploits" that haven't been fixed that let you get experience for the same thing over and over when you're supposed to be awarded experience only once.

The Gibberlings 3 modding group is working on a comprehensive fixpack that is intended to fix every bug they can find. They have a pretty good list of all the known "bugs" if you want to check it out:

Indeed, the G3 BG2 Fixpack contains the Baldurdash fixes and many other fixes.

I recommend installing it instead of the Baldurdash packages.

Then you load any so-called WeiDU mods, then the non-WeiDU ones. Also, be sure you read the readme files for any mods you plan on adding before you add them, so you'll know if there are any restrictions on the load order.
