I don't have the game yet so not entirely sure what my first character will be, but it will probably be an elf or half-elf (or one of their sub-races) as a sorceror or similar class. I will probably specialise in something like necromancy and play as a chaotic evil character as that is my favourite build from NWN. I prefer arcane magic users over melee or divine casters and I love to role play as specific types of mages etc. I'll probably choose stats that are designed more for roleplay rather than powergaming too.

Well, as always with these games I'm torn.

My first - current - character is a human. I almost always only plays human, because it "feels" better for me. I can't define it, but it just makes sense for me (one race I'll never touch is drow :D )

But classwise, then I'm in trouble. My current character is sorcerer, but I'm toying with the idea of changing it for either a warlock, paladin or warrior. I like to play magic, but I also like to play meele, so I'm in trouble when it comes to this. I do not care much for "divine or natural" magic - I prefer the arcane, so clerics or druids are pretty much out of the question for me. Although the paladin is a more divine caster, the casting aspect of a paladin is limited and does not overshadow the many other fun (possible fun) aspect of a class which defines itself via duty :D

And the introduction of the warlock makes that class sound very interesting as well, and I would possible have picked that first had I read more about it, but my mouse just went fast to the sorcerer, which ... well, might be a bit boring though.

I'll likely restart my game now that I got a feel for it (gotten to about 7 I think), so need to pick an interesting class unless I'll restart over and over as I normally do in this type of games.

Why ? Play a Moon or Sunelf Wizard/Fighter...Typical combination for elves anyway. The Dex or Int bonus they get gives them an edge with light or no armor ( for Moonelves ) or better wizard abilities ( for Sunelves ). It's a shame they didn't include the Bladesinger Prestige class for elves and halfelves.

Ehh- if you didn't read my post, then I prefer to play human characters, so suggesting an elf one might not do much for my dilemma :)

I have to confess... I love Tieflings and Drow... It's my inner dark side.. :o

I've also been having a blast playing a druid in SoU/HoTU. So, when I'm eventually able to get the computer that will run the game, I'm thinking maybe a stealth-oriented Tiefling druid could be fun :D

I like playing stealth-based spellcasters, so I'm thinking I'd start off with one level in rogue to take advantage of feats/skill points, and then progress exclusively as a druid. In my opinion there is a bit more challenge to classes like this, and also more versatility. The reason I particularly like druids in NWN, I suspect, has something to do with my moderate hippy inclinations ;)

This may seem an odd combination to some, but I generally create characters from an RP perspective, and what I personally like, rather than a PC that assumes ridiculous levels of power. So, I'm not overly concerned about favoured classes and so on.

Hypothetical approach:
Race: Drow (yes I know...)
Class(es): Sorcerer 6/ Eldritch Knight 10 / Black Guard 4)
I always want to do each and everything by myself... Drow is used for SR (that one would never have good enough reflex saves)
This is one mean bastard :mischief:

Practical (in use character)
Race: Deep Gnome
(ECL gives me a hard time so far; runing around with 18HP is not that much fun)
Class(es): Bard (1-4) / Fighter (4+) / Red Dragon Disciple 10 (curently at 1/1 Bard Fighter
needed the Bard or Fighter as favored Class and the Class Skills of the Deep Gnome give a good blend for soloing :angel:

Without having the game yet, and knowing all of my options in-game....

Race: Half-orc
Profession: Warlock
Why: I like the idea of a grotesque looking fiendish brute bending dark powers to become a melee powerhouse. Low HP and limited armor possibilities make it all the more interesting I think. Being able to channel dark power through my axe or whatever I decide to pick up as a weapon just seems all sorts of fun. If, I can do this with the character anyhow, as I don't know what the feats and such will be.

Short of that....

Elven Fighter/Wizard/Eldritch Knight. I can assume nearly the same type of thing, but I will have more finesse and options involved in my arcane power to use.

I've always had a soft spot for bards (blades) since Baldur's Gate II (offensive/defensive spins). I think I'll stick with my latest variation which is a Gnomish Bard/Barbarian/Dragon Disciple. Think the flying monkeys from Wizard of Oz. You havn't had fun until you hack through a horde of rats with a singing raging winged midget.

I nearly always go for sorcerers, as i'm a magic adict and don't like the laborious spell learning of wizards, however i've found the magic casters in NWN2 to be weak for me, I have found that warlocks are amazing! They seem to have no limit to their powers! The spell has a recharge time of a couple of seconds and you can just keep on firing, has anyone found a limit on it? Of course I was a wood elf aswell. They have the best racial balance for not dying too quickly and lend themselves to the needed dexterity of warlocks.

I'm also trying to achieve an arcane archer starting with a ranger and a couple of sorcerer lvls, it seems to be working well so far especially if you go for offensive buffs like magic weapon and true strike, it enhances the physical attack, and allows you to deal with hostile magic casters without the need of having an arcane caster in your party!

Well, when the game actually arrives in New Zealand and Aussie (damn you Atari), Ill get to play.

The character I aim to play, and have had a thing for, for quite some time, will be Susie, a Svirfneblin Barbarian/Frenzied Berserker.

I love cute lil gnomes, and have done since before WoW as well. And a female barbarian coming in at your knees always gets me chuckling. Totally away from the A-Typical classes that Gnomes take.

priest with strength and heal domains as tough self-healing and buffing char.

but I'm still thinking about switching to human priest...

Is slower lvl up worth those racial bonuses?

Well, I already posted in this thread, but that was before I had really played the game and decided on what I wanted to be.
I love interesting characters, and while he's not as interesting as some of your characters (a bard, barbarian, dragon discipled gnome :laugh: ) he is interesting to me.
So far, he is a Lawful Evil, Human Ranger Assassin (duel wield level 6 - assassin lvl 2). It's been FUN trying to get him to stay in character.

He is mindful of the law and rude as hell, but when someone rubs him the wrong way his assassin tendencies kick in. :)

Upon entering Neverwinter he was faced with a real dilemma. He could either go with his lawful side and join the city Watch or go with his evil side and break some legs for the thieves. He chose to go the way of the Watch... and what a choice it was!
He could now force people to obey the law or die! It was a perfect fit. :D "Oh, you're drinking in the street? - loitering, you're arrested." "Taking a bribe? Want me to feel sorry for you? Not a chance, DIE!." It was perfect.
:p



Oh and I'm having a lot more fun in this campaign than I did with NWN1 :eek:

since dnd 3 i've becomed quite accustomed to two builds. one is solely for melee smash'n'go :D to be exact:
duergar - for its outstanding abilities/immunities further increased by specialized classes, for it's darkvision, for it's abilities to withstand a lot on the battlefield (check the pluses for fights...) and then there goes the magic resistances. yummie! ah and the poisons... yes it is -2 lvled yet it's still my favourable race for most melee chars.
and the class would be... monk - together with duergars' attributes this makes one strong walking and kicking and smacking little thing. of course i'll use one specialized weapon of choice (probably kamas) along with my fists. monks are simply so versatile - they can whack along, sneak past everything and everyone, scout ahead and withstand almost every "magically enhanced" attack.
together this enables me a non-standard way of making as versatile as bard combinations character with lots of useful innate/inclass free abilities...

the other build is merely a magic wielder... simply a drow or any other elf, still considering (should be quite ok) human. and class? either sorc for its familiar (one more object to distract enemies :D ) and abilities to cast narrow margin of spells (always using only a short amount of spells, variety quite nonexisting) at will... and this is why i'm considering now to make a dark-elf warlock... considering its pros i might say that it's pretty interesting. i played warlock on paper session :D and then it seemed to be perfectly suited for me... i'll just have to see how it is in the digitalized edition :D

9th level spells, a greatsword in one hand with 4 attacks per round with high BAB, some shields and armors with no arcane spell failure, great crafting abilities. Tremendously versatile and one of the powergamer builds.

I thought of another fun one. I'd normally be opposed to Drow builds (they are just too popular) but this one is crazy enought to be very unique.

Drow Monk, Wizard (Necromancer), Pale Master, Duelist. Get this... Dexterity, Intelegence, and Wisdom are added to your AC in addition to natural AC bonuses from the Pale Master and Monk. Right now the current level cap might be a little tight but there is the potential for an awesome parry, two death attacks (quivering palm/undead graft), and some crazy immunities (backstab, disease, poison, hold, paralysys, stun). Did I mention magic resistance yet?

Although this a power build, there is a whole lot of roleplaying potential here. This character has adopted and perfected everything necromacy, using only magical weapons (does anyone know if any of the monk weapons are piercing) crafted of bone. HIGHLY skilled at melee and magic defense, you can use whatever dangerous and creative strategies you want without risking too much. On attack this character is extremely versitile. You can engage in melee combat using standard or parry attacks. Use meticulouly prepared necromacy spells, or summon hosts of skeletons to do your bidding.

Have fun with this one.
