Help: Water Jumping Puzzle

Post by aussie99 »

I have looked at all the previous info relating to this. I have tried all the scenarios. Have even had a second person to help but the furthest I have got is the second platform and I am getting so bored with re-loading.
Is there anyone out there who will help me get past it if I send a saved game?
I am playing the CE.
I was enjoying the game until I got to here.

Which water jumping?

Where?

Have gotten to a couple and got by them by jumping in the water and swimming until I found a way out.

Its the one in the Shadow Ruins-Kingston Area with the four platforms.

I have tried slowing down time but I am still not co-ordinated enough to get across the four. I have never even managed to get to the third.

Water-jumping puzzle

This bites....lol....I can NOT get past this stupid puzzle. It's bad enough that i have to cheat as it is..using a trainer because i lost three almost four fingers on my right hand in an accident so dexterity is not my thing..thats why i always loved the older style rpg's. They gave you time to think and then act. Was really enjoying the game up to this point am about to throw it in the trash. Are there going to be anymore puzzles this tough later in the game? if so i'll just chuck it now.

Am tooooooo slow!!!
Can't get across the water jumping puzzle, in the shadow ruins.
Have tried the crystal of time but that slows me down too, as well as everything else.

Anyone got a save game they can help me out with please?

If you are talking about the water puzzle with the 4 platforms that go down, in the shadow realm, then try going out the gateway, wait about ten seconds, go back in to the right corner. Wait till they all go down, use your time crystal and jump as the first begins to rise out of the water. I was able to get it on the first attempt.

solving the water-jump puzzle

I also had probs with this puzzle, but solving it is quite easy if you can turn, move and jump quite quickly. I found that a time crysal doesnt make it easier but you could try it. The key to the puzzle is that when you enter the room, make sure all of the platforms are in the 'up' position. If they aren't, go back into Kingstons room for a while and then re-enter the puzzle room again.
As you enter the room, you step on a pressure plate on the floor, which activates the shadow gate on the opposite side of the room for a LIMITED TIME.
Don't worry about breaking open the crates etc in this room, you can come back to them later. Time is of the essence at this point.
If all the platforms are in the 'up' position, quickly move to your right and align yourself to jump onto the first platform BUT DON'T JUMP YET! You will see all of the platforms sink into the water and then rise again. (Timing and your skill at moving, turning and jumping is important at this point). When you see the 1st platform begin to rise again from the water, make a jump for it. then quickly jump for the other platforms in quick succession even if you can't see them rise from the water yet. Don't worry they will be there by the time you land. I hope this helps, happy hunting... :)

Jumping puzzle

I left the room and stayed out for 30 seconds. This reset the area. You must jump the first time or it goes random again.

Easy way

The easiest way I have ever found to do this puzzle is in multiplayer mode and the one with the shadow crystal swims to teh last platform until it lifts you out of the water jump into the inactive shadow gate and tell the other person still in kingstons area to come into the room activating the shadow gate and teleporting you to the chess room where you place the shadow crystal and teleport everyone in the party into the same room. :D

Did you get the shadow stone before reaching the puzzle room? Did you try the strategies discussed in this thread? I think the best strategy is the one listed in the walkthrough, which involves leaving and then re-entering the puzzle room.

SWC
Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

yes, i got it but sooner than walkthrough said because i confused the doors. but i got it.. and tried to acivate that pressure plate several times! but didnt work. i loaded the game again today and took a look at my accessories to make sure i had shadows stone although i knew i got. i found it then entered water jumping puzzle room and the shadows gate appeared. i dont know why.. maybe the game has forgotten that ive got it. ill be more patient next time before asking. now im in the shadows altars section so everything is allright.
thx for writing back!

My Method (I also had a great deal of difficulty with this and this is what got me through it.)

Note that hitting the water at ANY time makes getting there in time impossible - its not because more time is wasted in the water but rather because it triggers a fast closing of the far teleport pad.

1st: go into the options setting of the game and make sure you have the ability to move forward and jump with one hand on the keyboard, OR if you have a programmable gamepad then do the same with it. Your other hand will be for "steering" via the mouse.

2nd: An easier variation on this method:

http://www.gamebanshee.com/dungeonlords/walkthrough/sruinskingstonsarea.php

1. Save a game in Kingston's torture room with your character facing the teleport pad AT the angle of the first water jumping pillar. Like the method above, make sure that you save it after an appropriate amount of time to "reset" the pillars.

2. Use the slow time celestial spell (available to all). Note that this allows you a much easier time steering and precisely when to jump. Make sure that you jump just a a very little amount (maybe one character foot) beyond a platform/pillar's edge.

3. Then move forward onto the teleport pad at the angle so that you will be facing the first pillar in the water jumping room. Make sure you do it *slowly*, (maybe one or two pushes of your forward "key"), so that when you are teleported to water jumping area you are still on the rune pad pressure plate (..which maintains the starting time of the far teleport).

4. Wait until the last pillar is *almost* under water and then move forward off of the rune pad pressure plate and make your jump to the 1st pillar. Steer your character around to the next pillar and do the same without waiting. (..rinse and repeat until you are at the far side and move into the far teleporter.) Do not stop to pillage the barrels on the far side.

5. Once you are in the chess room - SAVE YOUR GAME.

Good Luck! :) And note that it will likely still take you several tries before success until you get the mechanics down.
