storing items in guild's open chest

I have gotten away with leaving stuff in chests inside guides, but from other posts I've read, it's not completely safe.
According to the game manual, the only safe place to leave items are in containers that you own. The only way I know of to own a container is buy a house, which is frustrating me at the moment. I have no personality.

Most containers in Oblivion (chests, crates, cupboards, whatever) respawn every 3 days. Containers in houses you own are always safe. Some of the chests in guild halls respawn, and some don't. Your best bet is to test a chest you want to use before storing anything valuable in it. Save your game, put a few unusual items that aren't likely to randomly re-spawn together (say, a weapon, a soul gem, an alchemy ingredient and a lockpick), leave the area, wait four days (just to be sure), then go back and check. If it's all still there, that chest should be safe. If it's gone, re-load your game and try a different chest.
Here are a few I know are safe (spoilers:)

Spoiler
If you're the Grey Fox, the chests and desk in the Guildmaster's Quarters upstairs in the TG HQ are safe, but the ones downstairs are not. If you're the archmage, the chest beside the bed in the Archmage's Tower is safe, but the chest at the foot of the bed is not. The enchanted chest across the room will multiply alchemy ingredients if you leave them in it overnight, but they will disappear after a week, and anything else will disappear overnight. If you're master of the Fighter's Guild, the Guildmaster's Chest upstairs in the Chorrol guild hall appears to be safe, but my standing orders are to bring me cash, so I'm not sure what happens if you take your monthly cut as items.
Can the answer to this question be "No"?

i see, thanks. i was storing pretty expensive items in the dark brotherhood's "open chest" in the training room, but good thing i didn't keep it there for long, i moved it all to my sanctuary now in deepscorn hollow which i've just finished building. i'm guessing its safe to leave stuff anywhere in here?

To be on the safe side, leave items inside containers in houses you buy.
If you're playing on a PC, there are mods that will install chests in guilds you join that can store your items safely.

Some other options
My friend and I's gaming experience
+ I lost a significant number of items to the Guild Master's chests ( not the specialized one but the run of the mill ones ).
+ Items in the fighter guild I am unsure of but I would not do it. Use your houses only but if you must use a guild house, just throw the items on the floor of the Mage Guild Maser's bedroom the game keeps it.
+ The game remembers items that are thrown outside too and no AI takes them. I ripped off everthing in Bravil ( I mean everything) and tossed the zero dollar items outside of a certain house. They are still there now.
+ Switching items from chest to chest can sometimes cause them to get "lost". They arent in the chest and not on the person. The game just loses them.
+ Do not give the "adoring fan", or any of your guild helpers items to hold they will disappear too.
