Weapons/Class Building Questions

Post by jparm3rd »

Hello Forum members:

I am currently working on a character build in DLCE 1.5 topping out as a Deathlord. If I'm going to use a Heavy Weapon in the Primary Hand and a Medium Weapon in the off-hand, is there any reason to raise Medium Dual Weapons above Level 1?

Also, I am considering going back to a saved game later and trying out the Samurai as a 2nd tier Fighter class for its Light Dual Weapons and Inflict Wounds skills (Is the kama of the Void better than say the Katana of the Sun in the off-hand?) instead of the Marauder Deathlord path and taking the Adept Paladin Crusader path instead so I can get the crushing blow skill, which I understand only effects the primary hand in this case, ie a heavy weapon. Which path is a stonger in Melee? Again I am currently on a Fighter Marauder Deathlord Adept Paladin path, but am comparing it to a Fighter Samurai Adept Paladin Crusader path for total melee destruction.
I am also looking a best weapon combinations for each path, too. I am assuming that a Heavy Medium weapon combo would be stonger in melee than a Heavy Light weapon combo, but that might not be correct. Any opinions or feedback?

Thanks,

James.

So far as I know, no.

In my opinion yes, you need level 5 to get the combo attacks, otherwise you're actually better off with just one weapon, assuming you have level 5 skill in that weapon.

Galrean:

I have Med Dual Weapons at Level 1 and am getting all the combo attacks.
I believe that's because my Med Weapons skill is at 10. So is my Heavy Weapons skill, by the way. So, since I have the combo attacks.....is there any value to adding more skill points...say for more damage etc? SWC says no and I agree. I saved a game as a test since its a question and put several points into Med Dual Weapons that I had saved up and sure enough, I'm seeing no noticable effect to any ability like strike or parry and no increase in damage. So I conclude it doesn't APPEAR to be doing anything.
Therefore, I put my points into something I can see an effect in.

Appreciate the post--thanks for helping me clear that up--hate wasting skill points..... :p

Curious, I'm playing v1.4 and had a very different experience. At one point I was convinced I had leveled my light dual wield up to 5, and couldn't understand why I was doing so little damage, switched to single wield and voila the damage went up appreciably. I then noticed I had in fact only increased dual wield to 4, put it up to 5 and my problem was sorted.

Hmm. That is interesting. The only thing I can think of is that maybe its the difference between 1.4 and CE 1.5? I know some things that were working in 1.4 like activating the bricks in the theatre don't work in CE 1.5 and a bunch of things that weren't working in 1.4 work in CE 1.5. Don't know though for sure, just a theory. Maybe someone out there in forum-land knows?
