Whats the best scenario? what makes your storytelling genes go berzerk?
hehe enough of that
My personal must be the small village up in the hills. A small but still interesting community, everyone knows everyone, and with a few NPC's who really stand out from the crowd. and a well, always a well , nice spot for PC's to make random encounters with the inhabitants of the town
And also, it would be nice with a interesting way of inviting the PC's into this place
I like developing small cities. It requires some descent planning of the major plot areas and important sites, but also makes you think as you play for so of the more... basic elements. It's better than big cities as I prefer to play Forgotten Realms where most major cities are mapped out and also requires less effort and shorter travelling descriptions.
It's also easy to implement as adventures have to hit a city at some point and the possible story arcs are almost endless.
There's also the 'reusable' value (yeah, I'm lazy, sue me.)
I once made a scetch of Baldurs Gate. All kinds of buildings and mistery... pretty cool.
Right now I printed every page of a map, it's 4x2 A4 big. Lots of travelling coming up.
I like putting little things in cities and places that make it feel alive.
A park with a wishing well that may or may not work, statues that may or may not have a mistery to it, a large building noone ever enters and an unknown owner, a mage tower, an old tree, sewers, a church area, a noble area, a trade area... you name it!
Naturally the NPC's to go with it

Pax Tharkas and that old dead grand city... forgot the name...
Too cool.
Istar? I think Krynn and the Dragonlance setting was my favorite setting. I just loved everything about it. It was like, I think the most realistically done interpretation of how each group would react to each other if such things occurred in the real world. There was racism, and uppity elves, reclusive dwarves, terrifying god-like dragons and gods that inspired awe and fear in everyone. Not at all like the Forgotten Realms setting where everyone is super-man-esque.
"You can do whatever you want to me." "Oh, so I can crate you and hide you in the warehouse at the end of Raiders?" "So funny, kiss me funny boy!" / *Sprays mace* " I know, I know, bad for the ozone"

Indeed, it all has a more realistical feel to it.
The only other one that I can think of is the one Philos mentioned above, Xak Xsorath. OH, Tarsis? The landlocked sea port?

Ruins and lost cities are my favorite settings, right now have a group of us playing and the DM is a student of architecture and his hand drawn maps of the countryside and his maps of ruins and caves and such are great, makes one feel even more into the world.

To me stuff like that gives the world a history.
The "It's not always been the way it is now." feeling. Plus it gives you an oppertunity to find out new stuff.
Yeah, just heard from my friend and he's spent his spare time from school, doing more maps.
So we all hope to get together during the holidays to continue our grand adventure, by the way its the first time I've played as a almost pure tank, dwarf with big ole axe.
