Cleric builds

Post by Seeker123431 »

Hello there. I was wondering if anyone knew any good cleric builds, perhaps?

Depends on what you want the cleric to be able to do. Good fighter? Good diplomat? etc... Clerics are pretty customizable.

With the one I'm playing through with now, I wanted one with a lot of offensive power and some melee abilities -

Aasimar (Wis and Cha bonus and only a -1 level penalty)
Domains: Fire (gains Fireball at level 5, additional fire damage resistance)
Air (Call Lightning at level 5, CHAIN LIGHTNING - favourite spell - by level 10, I think)
Start with a 15 STR and 16 CHA and 16 WIS; at level 4, +1 to STR, giving another bonus in melee combat; memorize buffing spells, get Maximize Spell feat for when you can cast 9th level spells (allows Maximized Chain Lightning). I've gone with single-handed weapons for this build for the added protection that shields provide. Mithril Full Plate for the weight savings, Adamantine shield for the damage reduction.
"Wasteland will be Bard's Tale wtih gunz! " - some fanboy, ca. 1987

I think the Warpriest prestige class may be right up your alley. Check out the class description right here on gamebanshee: Warpriest@GameBanshee

Screw the halfling. Here's what you should do for a melee/cleric:

Use a Dwarf. You won't need the Cha as much as the Dex, so no Gold Dwarf.

Bring your Dex up to 14, pump the rest into Str, Wis, and Con. Wis and Con should each be at LEAST 16. The rest, do what you wish with.

Need to stay Lawful. Doesn't matter if you are good, neutral or evil, just stay Lawful.

Take the Earth and Healing Domains. Earth Domain power grants you the Toughness Feat, which is necessary to enter into the Dwarven Defender Prestige Class, and you want that. As well as the 4th level spell Stoneskin. NWN 2 doesn't require the 250 gp material component for this spell, and that makes it godly. Use it. Healing domain gives you free empowered healing spells as domain spells. Hellloooo nearly double duty healing. This means, those nearly worthless 0 level spells everyone else ignores? Yeah, they now heal 6 HP a piece for you if you use them as Cure Minor Wound spells in the game. BINGO.

Take the Dodge feat as soon as you can, that extra +1 to AC against the target you are currently swinging against helps, and it is a requirement for your leter prestige class.

Take cleric levels up until level 10. Upon reaching level 11, you will now take the Dwarven Defender class. Welcome to the world of the best tank you will ever see. You will now start getting the best BAB of the game, 1d12 HP per level, the ability to stop movement and gain incredible bonuses to Str, Con and AC while staying still in a fight, and eventually damage reduction. Not to mention, you now get proficiency in martial weapons. This means, instead of that morningstar/heavy mace as your best weapon previously, you can pick up a dwarven waraxe and use it instead! Take one up, or a warhammer, longsword, etc and a heavy shield. You are now set.

When entering combat, you can now cast the following:

Divine Favor
Stoneskin
Righteous Might

And then swing like crazy. You will now be a large creature, with reach, two sets of bonuses to (+5 total damage and attack), and two kinds of damage reduction. Not to mention, heavy armor, a shield and great defense.

Keep in mind that you will want to take the Extend Spell feat, and keep an extended Shield of Faith memorized at all times. This will negate your need for a Ring of Protection. It becomes a 2nd level spell like this, but by 10th level you have a +3 to Deflection AC and it lasts for 15 minutes when prepared as an extended spell.

Have fun killing. :D

Anyone know all the details on how turn undead works exactly?

Also, if you have the domains Sun (super turning) and Evil (turn outsiders), does the super turning apply to outsiders?

If so I would consider choosing this combo, and having BooYah turning ability.

Another tip with healing domain. The mass cure wounds spells are a truly awesome area affect weapon against undead, while healing your party at the same time. Made some of the big udead battles purely booring.

Exact rules on turning undead are here

No, the Sun Domain Ability only applies to Undead. It will not apply to outsiders as well.

Another good thing is the way healing spells damage undead yes. As it is only a touch attack to hit with them, it would make harming undead easy with my outlined build above. Turning them wouldn't work at high levels with my Cleric/DD build, as the progression stops at level 10 for cleric spells and turning. However...the character would get Cure Critical and Cure Light: Mass wounds spells. Both will be useful when used in conjunction with the Healing Domain whether healing allies or harming undead. Free empower is horribly broken, as is much of the stuff in NWN games.

I think those rules apply to the PnP game, and are not fully applicable in NWN2. For example, in NWN2 the dead don't run away, or cower; they either die instantly or they carry on fighting. The Cleric's level does affect the damage, I think - but the CHARISMA level affects it more than character level, from what I have noticed in my own game, so bump CHA up as high as you can - there are a lot of undead in the game.

Even so, Turn Undead will NOT kill all undead. Some are very resistant to turning. So be prepared to use weapons as well - and, of course, those useful Heal spells.

You can, of course, use any race you like as any class you like: but Aasimar is certainly the ideal race for Clerics and Paladins, as has been mentioned.
However, it is not obligatory for a Cleric to be Lawful; only Paladins (and Monks) HAVE to be Lawful. My current Cleric is CG and she's doing just fine. Started with:

STR 16
DEX 8 (a bit low, but, hey, she has armour)
CON 12 (again, a bit low, but not too bad)
INT 12 (I like the extra skill point so sacrificed DEX)
WIS 16
CHA 17
