Next question: Why can't I join the Thieves Guild?

Post by DemonicGhost »

Every time I try, they always say "We have our standards, and you do not meet them." However, I'm a level 32, and all my stats are at least at level 35 (except mercantile and speechcraft). Is there something special I need to do, or what's going on here?

There are some conflicts between the Thieve's Guild and the Fighter's Guild, have you done any of the Fighter's Guild quests?

I'm the Grandmaster of the Fighters Guild, HOWEVER, I did NOT do any of the quests that involved killing Thieves Guild members, so I don't see how there'd be any conflict...

Did you convince one of the thieves in Balmora to give you the Fighter's guild codebook (even if you didn't kill her)? Once you do that, you can no longer join the thieves.

I've read that numerous times, but have never encountered it myself. I've always completed the code book quest before joining the thieves guild, and never been rejected. Maybe it's because I always bribe the wench until her disposition is 80+ before asking about the book, and she's always given it to me without any problems.

I encountered it on my current playthrough but then my character is a Paladin build so maybe its because my basic stats are not good enough at the moment to join the thieves (I'm only at level 8)

I bribed her, didn't kill her, so it doesn't look like that's the problem.

That could still be the problem as in my current game I bribed her, didn't kill her and they will not accept me either. That is the only reason in my game that they wouldn't accept me other than stats/attributes being too low (which I very much doubt is the reason). If the thieves will not accept you its because you've done something against them, usually this would mean while doing fighter's quests.

Oh well. The only reason I wanted to join the Thieves Guild was to get that "remove the bounty on your head for half the price" thing they have. That will come in handy once I beat the main quest, and then start killing the people that annoyed me in the progress of the game. Such as that one Hlaalu guy, who makes you kiss him.
