What do you think of this Character?
Advice much appreciated. As several of you know I am going to reinstall Morrowind and its expansions, plus mods (once Bloodmoon arrives) and try this game again. I want to play a Breton Fighter/Mage. Now I know Breton's don't have the greatest attributes for fighting. Agility, Endurance, and Speed all start out with 30, but I can work on it.
Sign: I was thinking The Lady because it raises my Endurance by 25.
Or, The Mage which fortifies Magika by 50%, Or the Apprentice that fortifies Magika by 150%, weakness to magika 50% (but Breton's have 50% resistance to Magika, so cancel each other out???).
Yes, I know about The Atronach but I don't like the idea of Stunted Magika.
Major:
Heavy Armor (thought I got to admit I do like light armor as well; espeaciall glass)
Long blade
Conjuration
Mysticism
Restoration
Minor:
Block
Marksman
Athletics
Acrobatics
Alteration
What do you think?

The thing about Morrowind is that any race can moreorless do anything, so yes indeed you can work on your combat skills and end up with a fine fighter.Ferrick wrote:Advice much appreciated. Both of these birthsigns would be good, ultimately it really depends on the type of character you plan to roleplay. The Lady also gives you 25 points to Personality which can be very helpful for sweet talking your way through things. On the other hand, the Mage will indeed give you a massive magicka boost as well as balancing out the rather insane resistance bonus Bretons receive.
Heavy Armor - You might want to consider replacing this with Light Armor, since it will be very difficult to lug around in the beginning. On the other hand, it will boost your Endurance. What I'd suggest then, would be to place Heavy Armor into Minor Skills, and to start developing it when are stronger.Major:
Heavy Armor (thought I got to admit I do like light armor as well; espeaciall glass)
Long blade
Conjuration (replace with Destruction?)
Mysticism
Restoration
Minor:
Block (Hmmm...)
Marksman (see note below)
Athletics (consider replacing with Alchemy)
Acrobatics (replace with Heavy Armor, Acrobatics are *very* easy to increase)
Alteration
What do you think?
Conjuration - I find that excepting bound weapons, Conjuration is not that useful. Summoned creatures don't have the greatest AI, and they tend to just get in the way rather than being any help.
Block - I'm not sure about this one.... The problem with Block is that there are some very nice two-handed swords in the game, and it doesn't help much with Marksman either. Plus, it isn't too difficult to learn later on.
Marksman - Some people will tell you that if you end up using Destruction as a major, you won't need this, as they are both ranged attack. I disagree though. Apart from the fact that Marksman is fun (IMO anyway), there are plenty of nasties who reflect magicka back at you, in which case magical attacks don't get you very far, so I often pick both for my mages.
Athletics - Not as easy to raise as Acrobatics, but I feel a fighter/mage would benefit more from Alchemy which allows you to brew some very potent and helpful potions.

Good point about heavy armor. I was seriously considering Light Armor because of the low endurance score and medium armor is a kind of a waste. Somehow I've got to figure out a way to get my Endurance up.dragon wench wrote:The thing about Morrowind is that any race can moreorless do anything, so yes indeed you can work on your combat skills and end up with a fine fighter.

As for Conjuration, I was thinking of Summoned Creatrures more in the line of "Canon Fodder" if you catch my drift... I'll have to rethink this as a major.
I'll drop Block and I am in 100% agreement with you about Marksman. I love to a) kill Cliff Racers and b) deal damage from afar befor closing in.
The fastest way to get endurance up is to leave heavy armour out altogether, buy training for it (or spear or medium armour) before levelling up. I'd suggest taking Light Armour as a minor and make Marksman a major (15 skill in Marksman really isn't enough). You'll also be picking up really good light armour very quickly, like maybe the first or second time you sleep  )
I agree with DW about conjuration though, pretty useless, I suggest replacing it with destruction.

Hmmm, more good suggestions. I really do like Marksman and I really like Glass Armor.galraen wrote:The fastest way to get endurance up is to leave heavy armour out altogether, buy training for it (or spear or medium armour) before levelling up. When I first played the game with Tribunal loaded I hadn't a clue to why my "sleep" was suddenly interupted time and again. It didn't take too long to wake up dying... I was afraid to go to sleep! The safest place I found came quite by accident when I was sleeping in the Fighters Guild. The two "Sleep Disrupting Beauties" would get stuck in the bunk beds and I wailed away.
And was I ever delighted (and shocked) at the goodies left behind!
So what do you think of my modifications:
Major:
Light Armor
Long Blade
Marksman
Mysticism
Restoration
Minor:
Heavy Armor
Acrobat
Destruction
Illusion
Alchemy

Looks good, although I tend to pick short blade over long.
I love the glass armor also, I remember the first character I had, and spending hours, sneaking using invisible potions and the like to steal all the glass armor I could in Ghostgate, seems like it took forever but was worth it.

BlueSky, now that sounds dicey! I plan on using invisibility and levitation a whole lot wiser this time around.BlueSky wrote:Looks good, although I tend to pick short blade over long.

What level were you when you attempted this at Ghostgate?
I know everyone has their own preference, but why did you choose short blade over long?

The only thing I'd reiterate is that Acrobatics is *very* easy to level, all you need to do is jump constantly, and you'll likely raise it to at least 30 before you even reach level 2 or 3.
Given that you don't have Security listed, I'd strongly recommend Alteration instead. Not only will this allow you to open locks, it will also give you the ability to walk on water and levitate... pretty handy.
Though, of course, all of this is personal preference.

Ah, you're right about Alteration. I actually had that in my first list of Minor Skills because of the very things you listed, dragon wench. I'll replace Acrobat with Alteration and how about if I drop Heavy Armor (no pun intended) -- taking BlueSky's suggestion of training up -- and then adding Security in its place.dragon wench wrote:Looks pretty good!

The thing is, with the exception of Conjuration, I have all the remaining Spell Schools listed in either Major or Minor. Think this might be overkill?

Short vs. long....somewhere in these threads I read that short is quicker with more attacks, whoever listed it even had a chart explaining how in the long run, you could do more damage, although I've never really noticed it....that much.
You just get more chances at a short blade in the beginning. I've then trained up on the long blade skill later in the game.
As for the thieving at Ghostgate, if I remember correctly somewhere around level 8 to 10.....memory of that specific character, trying and getting caught, re-load try again.... I really wanted that armor...LOL
Alchemy is a favorite of mine, early in game skill goes up and you can always sell potions to get more money...ingredients are fairly easy to find or buy.
BTW A big welcome to the forums, if I haven't done so already.....

Although I agree with DW on what she says about Light Armour, and what you yourself said about Medium Armour, you might want to consider Medium Armour any way since you'll be using mods. Mod makers have realised that Medium Armour in the original game isn't the best choice and they made quite a few nice Medium Armours. It's not as heavy as Heavy Armor and gives better protection than Light Armour.

I agree strongly with this. Note, too, that more powerful medium armors were placed in the game through the pair of official add-ons.Coot wrote:Although I agree with DW on what she says about Light Armour, and what you yourself said about Medium Armour, you might want to consider Medium Armour any way since you'll be using mods. Personally, though, I'd recommend putting only one armor type total in your majors and minors. There are too many other useful skills. And since it's relatively easy to make large sums of money in MW, you can always buy a host of levels later on if you want to add a second armor.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
I did not realize that medium Armor was upgraded by the two expansions and since its become a much more viable option I will have to continue to tweak my character. Hmmmm, you guys are making me have to rethink -- again! But I look so good in glass...fable wrote:I agree strongly with this. Which probably means you'd look good in Ice too....Ferrick wrote:But I look so good in glass...
I had forgotten about the medium armours in the expansions and in mods, since I tend to use Light, Unarmored and Heavy myself... but yes indeed... the skill is well worth considering on those notes.

Will I see this improvement of Medium Armor ported into the original Morrowind story line due to the installment of both Tribunal and Bloodmoon or must I enter into Tribunal and/or Bloodmoon before I see better Medium Armor choices?dragon wench wrote:Which probably means you'd look good in Ice too....

Hmmm, Ice...Ice Blue... Blue is a good color for me.

You need to enter into the expansions in order to acquire the armors.. and even then, it does take a bit of effort. However, the process through which you need to go to get Ice Armor is a lot of fun anyway.
I really like Bloodmoon, moreso than the original game.
I believe that obtaining Adamantium also takes some effort, but I have yet to do so...

I would take replace Marksman with either Light or Medium Armor, and replace Conjuration with either Enchant or Armorer. Of course I'm more of a 1/2 Combat, 1/3 Magic, 1/6 Stealth character.Ferrick wrote:Advice much appreciated. Major:
