Ghoul disappeared/ question about a tape
Ghoul disappeared/ question about a tape
Possible spoilers below.
When I arrived at my apartment after finding the sarcophagus
needs a key, my ghoul Heather is gone. Anyone know why?
I got an e-mail from Gary asking me to find a tape with him on it (he was an actor!?). I can't figure out what to do though. Anyone tell me where the tape is please? I hear there are other poster receiving quests. Will they follow after the tape one? Thanks for any info. I'm getting towards the end and want to do all the quests I can.

Actually, the first tape Gary asks for ("Tap Hotel") is on the stage in the back of the Chinese Theater where the Gargoyle is.

I found the tape in the Merc building.
K, more questions Spoilers.
Anyway to save Heather?
The guy that sells weapons by the truck near Venture tower (with the fro) asked me to do his quest again. This a bug?
I put the tape in the mail box, ran off to kill the Sabbat and came back, and it's still there. No new e-mails from Gary either. Do I have to deliver the tape in person!? Not worth it.
I got an item that says it gives a plus 1 to experience, yet when I recieve rewards it seems the same. As an example when I returned to finish the Sabbat quest I only got 2 experience. Would I have only received 1 point without this item?
Thanks for any info.

Something strange just occurred. SPOILERS.
When leaving the Prince's building to make an alliance with the Anarchs, I hear what sounds like his voice say "Wait!". My character then stops and I can't move. I let my character sit for a little over 5 minutes even and still can't move. I reloaded a few times too. Any ideas? Only thing I can think of is that maybe I was going the wrong direction and the game doesn't want me to. Could this be it?

Lotsa *spoilers*!
That's a bug. Beckett is supposed to come out of the alley behind you. If you're frozen at the right angle you can actually see him stuck there.
Apparently this happens when there is a path error, or when there are too many pedestrians, or where the game just feels like it. Save just before the bug and take baby steps, walk backwards, walk on the near sidewalk, far sidewalk, or in the middle of the street, or only after all pedestrians are out of sight. If you keep reloading this technique eventually works. Or just use the sewers to get there.
BTW, there's two tapes and two cds laying around. Make sure it's the Tap Hotel tape you're putting in the mailbox.
The only way to save Heather is to send her away, the last chance just before you report in about SOL. Or if you really want to see her again, just before you confront Andrei walk back to where she was killed and she'll be standing around. She won't say anything, though. Guess she's a bit sore, but I'm sure she'll be over it after the credits roll.
You only get the extra experience point from the doodad for grants of more than 2 eps. A reward of 2 points is just 2 points, but 3 points become 4 points, if that makes sense.
Never had that happen with Fat Larry before.

Spoiler blacked out.
The tape in Carson's apartment is Imalia's swimsuit shoot. It's the third thing that he asks for. The first tape is, as I said, in the Chinese theater. Then he'll ask for a cd from MetalHead Industries. Then the Imalia tape. You have to do them in that order.

I went off and did a few Chinatown quests in hopes that when I came back the hang up problem would be fixed. It isn't I noticed that everyone in Hollywood and Downtown are at a stand still. No one is walking. No one is dancing in the clubs either. Anyone know of a fix that will let me continue on with the game? Sucks getting this far, but can't progress.
I finally found the Tap Hotel tape. Stuck it in the mailbox and went to my apartment. Came back to check my mail and it's still there. Going to go try again. A certain amount of time have to pass for Gary to get the tape?

After you put the tape in the mailbox, you have to leave your haven (even for a second) before Gary will take it. As long as you're in there, he won't show.
As for the downtown freeze (this is the "Wait!" one, right?):
I recently purchased an ultra-high-performance graphic card, and that almost never happens anymore. Before that, it happened all the time. The problem is that, while you're moving down the street, Beckett is supposed to pop up just as you're about to cross some invisible 'boundary' of sorts. If you happen to be on that boundary when he pops up, the scenario freezes. If you've got a slower graphic card, the lag time in the scene update can cause the freeze by allowing your character to go too far before the Beckett NPC is activated.
The best fix for that, as I found through arduous trial-and-error, is this:
When you get opposite the alley, stop, face the alley, and back up until you're against the building opposite. Quicksave here. Then crouch, turn 45 degrees to your left (so you're looking back at where you came from), and start tapping the 'S' key (back up). In little tiny baby steps, keep backing up down the street while keeping the alley in your field of view. You might have to occasionally adjust your motion to back around obstacles. If you do this (tap the backup key, pause for an instant, tap again, and repeat), then you should get to the point where Beckett is activated and before you cross the invisible boundary. Then you can talk with Beckett and be on your way.
After you've done this once or twice, you will find the point farther up the street where you can run straight to before you crouch, turn, and start backing up, thus saving yourself some time, but the first time, do it the long way so you can find the exact spot you need to back into. When you find it, remember it for future reference.
One last thing: This doesn't always work, but it works most of the time, so frequent quicksaves will allow you minimise the amount of time you lose hunting for that spot. When you find, it, record it somewhere. Tattoo it on the back of your hand if you have to, but a yellow sticky-note on your monitor should suffice.
As for the NPC freezes, I've seen that a few times, but so far it hasn't influenced anything - it actually makes things easier - you don't have to dodge around people if they're not moving. Venus still works, and by that time, that's all that's really important. A bug? Yes. Important? Not in my experience.
I hope that helps you get past this admittedly irritating little glitch. That's the problem with game designers. They always have these ultra-zoot-capri graphic cards and program for them, not understanding that the rank and file of us knuckleheads aren't generally down with ponying up the $3 Large the darn things cost.

Thanks for the help.
I can at least see a small sliver of Beck's arm now. Still hangs up. I think it's tied into the npcs all not moving. I went around killing some to see if the cops would come. They would spawn apparently, but get stuck. They never came after me. So when Beck spawns he is also stuck I think. What's odd is even when I use another saved game from awhile back all the npcs are motionless.

Not much of any actual use, really. He has had a change of heart about opening the Sarcophagus, and advises you not to open it. When you ask him why, he tells you that "intangible sensation" he's been feeling since he got to town portends disaster, of what kind he is not sure, and he is now convinced that the Sarcophagus is part of that disaster. He is unsure exactly how it is involved, but feels that if not opening it will avert disaster, then it should not be opened.
So, make of that whatever you will. It's basically the same foreshadowing you've had a half-dozen times by now from other NPCs, so, aside from the fact that now it's coming from Beckett, it's not actually news.
For me, I go 'way out of my way to cause it. More fun.

poster quests - must be done in the order Gary asks - BTW he is "Gary Golden" and listed on the celeb computer in the cyber-cafe.
I made the mistake over the tapes too - didn't notice that I'd got the wrong one.
beckett - running quickly causes the problem - I usually face the alley as I proceed to the Last Round and don't move so quickly - when I used to run, I'd sometimes go too fast for Beckett.
the consensus is that Beckett has discovered what happens if the sarcophagus is opened...(or "Beckett" is actually Ming - "you don't seem yourself" echoes Nines at Grout's place)
Heather - if you have played before, you know what will happen to her if you accept the armour, but if you didn't, you wouldn't consider sending her away at that point. it must be done before you speak to LaX and being given the Sabbat mission.
I'm pleased that she might regain her ability to walk - a bit of a rough embrace though
pedestrians - has times when they weren't right - usually it sorted itself out..

Stabbath, please use the EDIT button to update your last post, when it is the last in a thread. Doing otherwise looks like count farming or an attempt to draw attention--whether it is, or not. Thanks.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Saving Heather - SPOILER
Yep, to avoid Heather being taken by the Sabbat, you must send her away at some point, the last opportunity you'll have to do that is after you complete the "Society for the Preservation of Professors" quest. You'll return and see the debris in the street below the Prince's tower, but DO NOT speak to the Prince right away! Go back to your haven, and Heather will be there.
She'll tell you that she had a dream about you and that in her dream you disappear and she calls out your name but she can't find you. If you're Malkavian she'll tell you that in her dream she tripped over her own corpse. At this point, you have to tell her to leave, that it's too dangerous for her to live with you. Yes, that means not receiving the game's top body armor.
I let her be caught because unless you're Malkavian, there's no way your character would know she gets captured by the Sabbat. This only makes my character's vengeance on the Sabbat sweeter.
If you're Malkavian though, she tells you that she has a vision of tripping over her own corpse, it's pretty clear she has a vision of her own death. Than you should feel bad. But if you play any other clan, accept the armor, show her your love, and than avenge her death on the ashes of your Sabbat enemies.
