Stuttering levels

Post by Checkpoint1918 »

Sorry if this has been answered before or if it's a patch problem (if so please let me know! :-) )

I've got a problem with the game stuttering (or pausing) for about a second every one or two seconds during gameplay. This happened during the last level of Dragons Eye and has reappeared in Upper Dorn's Deep Umber Hulk Labyrinth.

When pausing it stops. And on the other levels all seems fine.

Anyone else experienced this?

Is this a constant thing? Does it happen all the time, or just when moving long distances and/or having lots of spell effects going?

Sometimes the game will wait a bit if there's lots of enemies pathfinding (Burial Isle in HoW is bad for this). If your issue is truly a repeating stutter, I haven't had that happen to me.

Are you patched? If you aren't, you should be.

For general graphics issues, have you tried experimenting in the configuration menu? Turning off 3D effects, increasing pathfinding search nodes, and disabling unnecessary graphics options can help.

It happens at certain levels. The two initially mentioned levels and now I've got some serious stuttering in the hall of heroes. The game freezes for about 3 seconds now and is 'live' again for about one second.

I've got the 1.41 version (unpatched, but isn't that the latest version?) I'll try to install the Totl expansion and see if that helps (because that is included the latest patch isn't it?).

I've backed up my savegames.

I've installed the game on an external drive, but that shouldn't matter?

Thanks anyway, hope the Totl thing helps, because it's hopeless to play with this happening :-)

To be continued. Maybe....

Reinstalling IWD, running the 1.06 patch + HoW + TotL didn't help at all I'm afraid.

I haven't got many savegames saved either.

The previous area Tiers of the Dead works just fine. Tried tweaking the graphics too, but the gameplay still stutters (as stated, it freezes for 3 seconds, returns for about a second and freezes again).

:(

Starting all over again is not very tempting (and the troubled levels could easily be the same all over again).

Isn't it anyone who's experienced this?

Solved it.

It seems that running the game from my external drive caused the problems.

Reinstalled it on my local drive and it works fine now.

It's storage only for my Maxtor drive then I guess :o

Well, on to further slayings!! :mischief:

Interesting. I didn't think the external drive would be the problem. Live and learn.
