IWD2 Vista and Nvidia 8800GTX problem

I decided to dust off IWD2 and install it on my Vista Ultimate box. It loads fine and comes up no problem at all...until I get in game. There are some horrible graphics anomalies that I have no idea how to address. Black boxes..corrupt text and images of inventory items popping up on screen. Anyone heard of this problem before and know of a fix? I'm using a PNY 8800GTX with the latest Nvidia Driver...1.54 I think. Open to any suggestions..I've tried all the compatabilty modes and options I can think of.

Fixed it. You have to put the game into 16bit texture mode and use software rendering in the graphics options to correct the problem, but it works fine now otherwise.

Thanks for the tip. I'm building a Vista machine next week, so it's good to know that at least one Infinity Engine game works on the new OS.

Not sure I have the same problem. I am having huge text boxes in black. The words are there but the text box covers a big area on the screen. Like a square the size of the length of the text on the screen.

I tried setting to 16 color and I didn't see anything about rendering in the graphics options. Has anyone had this problem?
