Improved Invincibility

Post by senex »

I am currently playing through IWD2 with Tactics4IWD2 installed. So far it has been fun but improved invisible mages give me a headache. My party is about to leave for Kuldahar - that last fight before you meet Oswald again. When those mages go improved invisible the fight is virtually over. There seems to be nothing I can do against it:

- I tried both, the divine and arcane revealing spells, but the 2 mages are never affected
- Dispell Magic :they always make their saves, actually so far I have never been able to dispell anybody but my own fighters who were standing too close to the target.
- Blind Fight for my fighters: about the only effect is that they reroll and miss again.

That pretty much means those mages are untouchable, I can neither hit nor dispell nor reveal them while they just stand there and disintegrate, hold, stun, enfeeble and skull-trap my entire party. Yes, they even disintgrated the Monk lvl 13 and the Drow fighter, both with SR and great fortitude saves.

I'd really need an advice here what to do.

My party consists of:

- Drow F3/Brb3/ Demarch 5
- Halfling Monk 13
- Aas Pal1/ Painbearer 11
- Hum Monk1/ Druid 12
- Hum Rogue2/ Bard 11
- Tiefling Rogue1/ Mage 12

Thanks for any help

If you haven't done everything before you could go back now and gather some XP by finishing the battle squares/killing the iron golems/slaughtering the monks/duergar, ....
If you manage to gain a level ir will become easier, both your drow and halfling would gain an extra attack and higher spell levels and better saves do also help.

There are a lot of things to improve saving throws, like bless, prayer, recitation, protection from evil, Tymora's melody, ...

You could also buff up your fighters so much that they hit more often with spells like champion's strength, ...

I'd also try making my party invisible, maybe the mages don't cheat to see invisible characters

Are effect spells are also worth a try, maybe cloudkill will keep them from casting, maybe the bard can make them peaceful with Siren's Yearning or "chaos" will make thém crazy, maybe circles of blades or bones do damage, maybe "static charge" ignores invisibility, ...

Just a quick thought...

I don't know a good way to beat them but I notice in games that the AI of mages often causes them to attack summons. A good defense might be to summon a decent amount of stuff to keep them busy. Then try and see where there spells are originating and napalm the area with AOE???
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
