Which racial enemy should I pick for my half elf ranger?
Stats:
Str 14
Dex 18
Con 17
Int 12
Wis 15
Chr 12
I was leaning towards ogre since you have to fight a few close to the end of the game.

Ogre is a very good choice, since you meet a few of those strong crushing meanies in the first half of the game, and you don't really have a capable mage or fancy missiles to help you at the beginning of the game. You might get a problem with the Shrek fan club though, which is HUGE. Nonetheless, having Ogre's as your racial enemy will also help you against that fan base, so you'll be allright. I'd go with the Ogre, it will definitely be of use
Edit: Oh wait, I completely forgot the Spiders at Cloakwood Forest! Yeah, those critters can be annoying and have giving me quite some nuisance in the past. On second thought, I would rather go with Spiders than Ogres. Ogres still take a good second place though

LoL yeah. People are really excited about the third one.
I forgot that you had to defeat the demented spider boss person.
A good reason why spiders are a good choice.

Forget worrying about ogres spiders etc, and sort out your strength.
Unless you're some sort of nut who likes getting beat up in every fight you have, get you strength up to 18/**...
Then probably agree with spiders, since you find them through out the game at varing strengths and just really annoys me getting poisoned!

I think I prefer the Ogre option for the reasons stated. The last battle can be very tough and you need all of the bonuses you can get. The spiders throughout the game are annoying, but you can usually take them out relatively easily with proper planning.
Regarding the stats: are you perhaps thinking that you can ignore strength and use the Guantlets of Ogre Power? That is an option, but there are other guantlets that improve your fighting ability over and above STR. Since it is possible to get your STR up to 19 (better than the GoOP will give) this is a good argument for bumping the starting STR to 18 at the expense of INT and CHR.
