mage help

Post by Sarla »

Hello all. I am new to the game, only been playing for a few days now.

One of my chars is a cleric/mage multi-class. I am wonder why their are some of the mage spell scrolls I can't write to my spell book. Is it because I didn't choose a mage speciallist class?

The two spells im talking about are monster summoning 1 and blur.

Thank you

Specialist mages do have spells they can't learn, but with your two spells I can't see the reason (checked my manual). Are you sure that you don't already learned one of the spells? And what kind of specialist mage are you?

On the manual issue, if you bought the boxed set (IWD + IWD 2), it should contain a copy of the manual. Check the CD under manual or extra. If you just lost it, check this link. You can download a manual for both the main game as for the expansion.

When you say that you cannot learn them, do you mean that you failed while trying to learn them? If so then this is normal, there is always a chance of failing to learn a spell from a scroll, and the higher your intelligence the less the chance of failure. Drink intelligence boosting potion before trying to learn them or quicksave beforehand and reload if you fail and then just try again. The first is the non-cheating method of avoiding spell learning failure ;)

You can only only scribe a certain number of spells per level which depends on your int. If your mage has 17 int he can only learn 14 spells for example.
By raising int temporary with potions you can learn more spells, you don't loose them when the potion effect is over.
