Not sure 'bout strength, but check your journal if you got an ?injury/scar?(some time since i last played it) since that might explain that, not sure but heal(the skill) might fix that, and the journal(curse maybe?) might explain them both, even if I'm wrong on the beauty thing.
Though you must be prepared for the fact that not everything can be fixed in Arcanum(though some things are just difficult to fix).
If all else fails, there's a fairly easy-to-use character editor out there. A Master Healer (either NPC or yourself) should be able to fix scars anyway.
Darkstone wrote:Like everyone says, the loss in Beauty is probably a scar. Get Major Healing to fix it.
The loss in Strength is probably a curse by Alberich. Go to his altar in the Wheel Clan caves and sacrifice a Lava Rock.
If it is the curse of Alberich, and Vesselle has dsone the alters in the right order up to that point, sacrificing again, out of order, would be a disasterous mistake.

i've just started the game and am in shrouded hills. apparently i'm lousy at fighting because i've discovered that the gouge on my face was self-inflicted during the toss-up with the steam engine. i guess i'm my own worst enemy.

I believe the master healer is in Qintarra. Maybe the herbologists around the world can help you too. Ask to be healed, and check your journal to see if it's gone.
You'll find out where it is later in the story. The herbologists are all over the place though. Very hard to miss them. Check the signs outside the stores.
