Ascension/Eclipse with few party members?

Post by Thrifalas »

I've noticed that most people who run Ascension, Tactics and Sola fights usually have full housed groups, or at least 5 people. Have anyone tried it on lower? I consider soloing quite unthinkable, but am interested in trying to duo, or trio it. Trio would be more fun, but a lot easier. Hmm.

So. Anyone done it before? Anyone tried it? Interested in it? Got any tips/tricks or thoughts about it in general that might help? I'm considering a FTM and Cler15>Mage for duoing, and something along the lines but a FM and a FT instead of FTM if I trio.

A full party can do it, a three member party can do it. I might even say it's easier. You've got higher level characters, they wear the best equipment available to them at that stage in the game without the need to spread them out over six party members, and managing them during the battle is not as complex.

There's just one, small problem: I haven't heard about anyone beating the Eclipse party with at least a little use of a few cheese tactics. Therefore, certain classes are definitely advisable, such as a Mage, Thief, perhaps even a Cleric or Druid. Got to love spells such as Nature’s Beauty, Insect Plague and Iron Skin.

Looking at your party, you've got the basics covered. Sola is a fighter/mage so he'll be your tank, and you'll partly act as the thief. You might want to add a sorcerer just to be on the very safe side ( ). If not, there are in my opinion two great party choices:
The first consists of Sola (F/M), Aerie (C/M), and you (F/T).
The other includes Sola (F/M), Jaheira (F/D) and you (F/M/T).

Both would be excellent choices.

All in all, I'd say a three-person party is as doable as a full party.

Aye, that's been one of my thoughts as well. While managing 6 characters in battle is quite doable, it's easy to end up with at least someone killed and you don't really get all out of them. I think 3 characters would be a nice amount to keep track on, and as you said, you truly get the most awesome stuff. There's only one setup of Vecna+Power, so to speak. ^^

About the chars, I'm not gonna use Sola since I dislike his cheesiness, I'll just pop the battle with the CLUACommando. It's the Ascension final battle that I'm really afraid of. ^^

And I'm pretty sure Eclipse is beatable without any cheese at all, unless you consider Triggers with 1 remove magic and 5 ADHD cheese. ;P

I'd recommend using this party:

Solaufien - Fighter/Mage Drow - come on thats all you need to hear.
Keldorn - generally I despise Inquisitors but lately their use in BG has been ummatched.
You - For this i'd go for a f/t - backstab, uai, bows/swords the works.

With this group you would be able to put a significant dent in the eclipse party.

I'd recommend using this party for the portion of SOA and TOB as soon as you can get them - the more you can utilize them to different situations the better - lately i found using potions and scrolls in last-ditch efforts or powering up makes alot of difference.

As for 3 member party, I'm thinking bout going thro SOA and TOB using a inquisitor, f/t and a conjurer - see how far i get but so far my experience using them is more than any other class or group.

Well, so much for Soloing being unthinkable. Today I took down the Eclipse Party with a single sorcerer, no cheesy tactics, just simple spell immunity exploit. :P

What's the minimum amount of characters needed to solo Ascension final fight, you think? Excluding ctrl+y chars like Sola and Valen.

Ascension final fight is perfectly doable with a solo character. I myself have done it with a Blade, Sorcerer(and in a no-reload-insane too), and an Invoker(22)-Cleric(23), again no-reload-insane. Yet, I think every character class can do it with sufficient reloading.

Go over to the BioWare forums - there are 7 threads detailing the exploits of Ascension soloers. My portfolio consists of a Monk on Core, an F/D on Normal, a Wizard Slayer on Easy (dear gods, that was hard), a Berserker on Insane and a custom kit (Morituri) on Insane.

Edit: In addition to Saros' group, there's a couple of Sorcerers, a Bounty Hunter, a few C/Ms, a Cleric of L -> Thief, a Cleric of Talos and a good few others.
