The best RPGs I have played would be Fallout 1 & 2 and PS:T.
Story, choices and well written dialog are the things I enjoy the most, and those games are very good on those fields.
I love the Fallout scenario and the freedom and choices you have there. Great writing too, love the humor.
And I like how your choices has an affect on the end movie.
PS:T is just an artwork of story and NPC interaction, its insane. I have never felt so connected with a chr as I ended up being with the Nameless One. Had a real sad feeling when the game ended.
Honorable mentions would be Morrowind, BG 1 & 2, The Witcher and MM6.
I love the lore and freedom of Morrowind. Also in the aspect that I am let to myself with not much help from the game, few scriptet things, not a good journal, but I'd rather have that that having it hold my hand like Oblivion and tell me what to do every minute.
BG was one of the first RPGs I played and I had read alot of Forgotten Realms books, so it made the experience that much better aswell. Very well rounded game, BG 2 aswell.
The Witcher, didn't thought much of it when I saw it in the store, but I was very positive surprised by it. Good story, with nice choices and consenquenses. And the best combat I have seen in a first/3rd person RPG.
MM6, again one of the first RPGs I played, and just really liked it.

It'd be nice if there was a simple thread where everyone just made a top 3 list of games, no talk or anything. Just for reference.Aegis wrote:You'll find I'm the more (most?) liberal of the moderators here at GB. If the thread's been done, it's long since buried, so why not revive it. Beside's, if it's been done, many of those members have moved on. New generation can now make their choices heard.

I am like JudgeU , I stareted playing with Finale fanitsy and Zelda, but you know what,i still have them, and i still play them with my grand children,lol...... How ever i like EQ2 just wont pay that much money a month,,,Fable is a pretty good game,...can not hardly wait for the new one tho...NWN2 helps me pass the time, met alot of good friends on the solo channle,......... So my fave is EQ2 the one i wont pay for ,...So i'm hoping Fable will take some of EQ2's, market system and crafting, and use it in there New release, just leave the big monthly dues alone.

Fave RPG's
Not being a heavy console RPGer, I like the handheld RPG's on the GameBoys and Nintendo DS. Personal faves are:
Dragon Warrior I/II/III
FF 1,2,3,4,5,TA
Golden Sun 1&2
Pokemon
On PC, I also have a few RPGs I like, including but not limited to:
Exile: Escape From The Pit
Dungeon Lords
DB Quest
Pits of Angband
Dragon Quest (admittedly more of an old-school text adventure game but has good atmosphere and high challenge factor.)
Excelsior: Phase One Lysandia
I also like Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness for GameCube.
If my PC faves sound unfamiliar, it's because they are REALLY old games, two of which are shareware. And PoA is circa late-80s. DBQ is fairly simple, but gets addictive easily. Cliched but good story.
And even though it's a dungeon-crawler style RPG, I like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, as well.

1 champions of norathh PS2
2 champions of norathh 2 PS2 (im finding very easy even on legendary mode)
3 Baldurs gate 1 PS2 (ive read alot of the books on drizzt dourden the "dark Elf" unlocked on the gauntlet)
4 Baldurs gate 2 XBOX (sad to say i sold this game and now i try to buy from game stop nd they want 50$ for it used")
5 Morrowwind XBOX (i wish i had a cpu good enough for this game but my XBOX game of the year version has given me 700+hours of game play. i think that all rpgs should give u the freedoms this game does and all the items and weapons clothes etc.)
5 Dragon warrior 1 NES (i just bought this game again. it was my first rpg. i got it for 5$)
6 all the final fantiesies have been fun 10,10-2,12, and i got the one for game cube but i think it stinks
