Assasins and daggers
Assasins and daggers
I often play games with assassin type characters and they often seem to benefit from daggers or even exclusively depending on daggers when backstabbing.
So yeah, any point in using daggers in BG, at least when playing an assassin kit.
I like backstabbing :mischief:

In a word, no. Better using other weapons, even, believe it or not, staves.Kharas wrote:I often play games with assassin type characters and they often seem to benefit from daggers or even exclusively depending on daggers when backstabbing.

Well, you can't of course backstab with a two handed sword, even if you can use it.
There IS a nice dagger that MIGHT give you an extra backstab 15% of the time, if you're interested.

I wouldn't advise sinking more than one proficiency point into dagger for it though, it is fine as an off-hand weapon, for which mere single star proficiency is adequate IMO, put the stars it another weapon or two-weapon style.Crenshinibon wrote:There IS a nice dagger that MIGHT give you an extra backstab 15% of the time, if you're interested.
On another point;only weapons that a thief can put proficiency points can be used for back-stab to work. If you're a straight thief then thats straightforward, be careful if you're multi-classed, as Crenshinibon pointed out Two-Handed swords don't back stab.

Well, while the Staff of the Ram +6 probably does the most damage with a backstab, the knockback is an annoyance, especially if you're a melee character... and of course you are as a backstabber and all.
Celestial Fury is nice early on, but it soon outgrows its' uses.

the knockback is a nuisance at times, but funny to watch!
I disagree about CF eventually becoming useless - OK the +3 looks a bit puny, but the stun aspect is what I like - even better when the enemy has a lot of attacks, or is inherently dangerous - like Mind-flayers that don't need too many hits to kill you on INT drain.
dagger of the star & boneblade are the best daggers from memory.

I agree with you on daggers and the bonus doesn't really matter as I often find myself dual wielding Kundane +2 and Belm +2 until end game. The stun aspect however, the save required for it is nearly always made, so the stun effect almost never triggers.

It may be that I have only been using CF on lesser enemies - now I think about it, I have not been going toe-to-toe with end-bosses using it - I have been using Hindo's doom, the Answerer and Blackrazor more. when facing large groups of enemies, I do often use CF still - lots of mercenaries and duegar dwarves fall before it.
I'm moving between WK and the ToB missions - and I'm trying to get the skull to upgrade Spectral Brand and I've put *** in scimitars - I put ***** in longsword and **** in katana, so scim is playing catch up.
