How can this game by any hard?
How can this game by any hard?
1)I tried to play the game and don't understand where is the hard part i mean.
All i have to do is after every battle, heal, recover spells, and go back.
It seems impossible to lose.
The only way i see this can be hard is if there is a time limit, how many days do i have to finish the game? is there a time limit to the game? because otherwise i don't understand how's possible to lose.
2) What's the point of healeres who offer you to heal with spells? when you can heal yourself by resting :S
IF there is a time limit and so it's better not to abuse rest. Can you tell me why would you heal yourself with any spell higher than the first one?
the first heal cost like 10 gold per usage, while the second cost like 60. But the first heals 1-8 and the second cost 2-16 (or something liek that) it has no sense, you will always buy multiple times the first one. It should be exactly otherwise. it should be cheaper to heal with higher level spells.
So if you a lot of damage you purchase the higher level spells. But if you have just 4 hit points left, it's not worth to buy a higher heal level spell, so you can buy the lower level.
Of course this doesn't matter much because you have infinite free healing..

The prologue is extra easy so that beginners can slowly learn how the game mechanics work. I doubt that you'll be able to finish the game without reload.
If the game is too easy for you just increase the difficulty, this will change a lot.
There's no time limit in the game, but there are roleplayers who consider it unrealistic resting every 5 minutes and powergamers who try to beat the game with the fastest in-game time.
There are also players who are crazy enough to play without healer in the party.
PS: IWD2 is a rpg, not a challenge you have to solve.

I'm in chapter 2 right now.
I don't know, i just use all my arsenal, and you seem to be able tu run from enemies prety well, so i just appear, use all my spells, and if it isn't enough, i just run and heal
Run , heal, abuse spells... that seems all needed.
I mean, yes i rest every 5 minutes, and it seems unrealistic, but more unrealistic that every event on icewind dale 2 is waiting for me. I mean, goblins were attacking targos and one month later (of me resting) they were still attacking targos.
In fact i don't have a healer in my team. Everytime i rest my team needs something like 1 month resting. But since there isn't any time limit, it doesn't seam to matter, it seems orcs are ready to wait a year for you.
I understand it's an RPG, that's the problem, how is supposed that you can rest for 1 month and nothing relevant happens until you do something?
Can someone reply about the healing thing? Why healers sell you a level 1 heal soo cheap compared to a higher level? what's the point in buying a higher level heal?, Multiple cheaper level 1 healing seems to do the work better.
you can help to solve my problem.
Can you tell me how much ingame time do/did you take to finishi the game?
how much the average player?
I could enjoy the game much better if i know there is a time limit. Since the game don't impose one on me (wich annoys me a little) maybe i can do it myself.
If you or others could tell me what's the average player time, or your time, so i can impose a time on myself, that would be great.
If you can tell me that time on EACH chapter, that would been GREATER, but i doubt you have such data.

Just don't rest beyond what is realistic... I mean if a goblin warren contained 200 goblins they would probably find you asleep even with whatever scout is watching you and surround you with 50-60 goblin elite...you probably couldn't survive that at 4th level. So just rest within reason I mean intelligent things shouldn't have some team throwing all there spells then retreating 1 screen away and resting, right?
Its not built into the game though. Its not a survival game like solid snake whatever etc.

First of, what difficult setting are you using? If the game seems to be too easy, then I suggest using harder difficulty, as kmonster suggested already. Also, the first chapters are rather easy, but the game does get harder after a while (especially when you come to situation where you can't rest safely between every single fight).
Secondly, if it's too easy for you when you rest between every fight, why don't you try to play the game in the way that you don't sleep so often?
And finally, if after these steps you still think the way you do, why do you even play the game? No offense meant, but if you think the game is boring, why bother to continue? I've left several games uncompleted as those were too booring, so there is no shame in doing so.

There's no reason for buying high level spells instead of several "cure light wounds".
Every lousy level 1 priest with 0 XP and 11 wis can cast "cure light wounds", but "heal" is a level 6 spell which requires a level 11 priest who had to survive many adventures to get that many XP and has to rest before he can cast this spell again. Healing is no factory product stored on the shelves, it takes effort.
In IWD2 there the prices depend on spell level, it's not calculated how much you actually benefit the spell in the current situation. Outside combat a few clw spells are as good as a heal spell, but when your tank is at 1 HP in combat you'd rather 1 heal scroll available instead of 1000 clw which heal slower than the tank takes damage.
I'm actually glad that the game has no time limit, nothing is as frustrating as getting stuck without knowing before it's too late.
I don't think you'll benefit from a time limit. If you play without healer you won't reach a decent total in game time anyway.
If "too easy" means you are missing lost battles and save and reload orgies: This is no arcade game which you have to practice in order to get far. This is an rpg, an adventure. See beautiful locations and dangerous monsters, meet good and evil people, explore the story with all its surprises, do big and small heroic deeds.
Fighting battles is only a side effect. Battles aren't supposed to be extremely difficult, winnable only with a lot of luck after several attempts and hours of thinking. You are supposed to use your skill in order to avoid that your party ever gets close to dying. The game is very long even without reloads, it doesn't need to cover its shortness by save and reload orgies like other older rpgs.

it's all nice, blue and pink.. But nobody could be a nice guy and just post a time?
Nobody could tell me a time the average gamer take to finish the game? a time of ONE TIME you remember you had to finish the game? plz, my petition is so simple
After that has been said, (and plz i really want a time) i will answer some things.
First i continue playing because i enjoy role playing games, and there are very few good ones out. But i need someone to push me to think, i don't feel any "heroic" when everthing has been a walk in the park.
This isn't the only RPG i had this problem with, i mean, to be honest, most rpg have this problem. They all have this "Abuse thing".
I only had to do one reload, and it was because i tried to steal with my rouge from someone and he angry and i have to kill him and the game made me reload.
So i play the game because I CAN enjoy the game...only if i had a time limit to break trough!
I don't play other game because, i think this is the last rpg game produced. Now a days RPG sucks even worse. And older than this there aren't that many good rpg, and worst, most have this problem one way or another. The only ones that doesn't have it are toooooo combat oriented. (mostly tactical combat based rpg like Final fantasy tactics and ogre tactics).
My problem is not that the game is easy, i don't have problems with that, the problem is that it's TOO easy, because you just have infinite time. when in any game you have an infinite resource, and you can abuse it you are invencible and thus it's almost the same as cheating and starting with invulnerable characters.
I saw the suggestion about not resting so much. Well then i'm hindering myself. I can't enjoy a game where i hinder myself on porpouse that way. I mean, i also don't feel heroic if i don't give the best of myself to complete the job.
That's why i need a timer.
About the spell What i mean is the following. you can find several healers through chapters. The ones that ressurrect people.
When you go to their options they can resurrect, heal, and a few other things.
Resurrection cost 200 per level (i think)
1 level of healing cost 10 gold heals 1-8
2 level of healing cost 60 gold 2-16
Why would you buy the second one?
that's why i meant.
they aren't scrolls and the healers seems to have a good damn memory because they can cast them infinite times.
I always buy the first one multiple times to heal my characters if i don't feel like resting.

I already answered that there's no reason for buying the high level cure spells.
Healing prices depend on D&D rules.
They could have omitted some of the healing spells, but a proper D&D high level healer can cast all of them, even if nobody pays for it.
There might be some D&D players who like this way and some players might even enjoy it to find out what you found out, only few are horrified.
Even in real life you can buy less useful things for more money.
I'd rather try to reduce real time instead of in-game time, spending less time preparing for battles and pausing the game less often will be more challenging than reducing the party rests and speed up the game flow.
But if you followed our advice and increased the difficulty setting you should have enough challenge even without this. I also have the suspicion that you have a party that's powerful in early and lousy in later parts of the game.
Although the battles weren't harder for me than for you I enjoyed playing the game at normal difficulty with the goal of no reloads or at least having as few reloads as possible.
If you don't care about how many reloads it takes you can't get this kind of suspense. If you fight too many battles with only 95 percent win chance or lower you can be certain to die at least once for example.

Just about the "average" time, I don't think anyone (at least anyone here) has calculated what would be the average in-game time for average player. This is because we should first determine what average player is, then we would need dozens of time samples for calculated. Also, those time samples should be made in same playthrough for everybody, for example the time it took to finish the game in first play through.
Also, I suspect you won't get many timelimits here, as not nearly all here keep records of it, even if they care of it.

Another thing that can make the game easier is the HP to max setting. This is actually not the rule in Dungeons and Dragons AFAIK. You'll have almost half your hp if you change this setting.

Hi,
As I played so far allmost all of the RPG games on (Atari ST, Amiga - now on PC) it can tell you much of my RPG affinity.
Since I had no time earlier to ply IWD2 I started it before two days. Well, started it with just one character
And I must tell that I enjoy in playing it like that.
Well - It must be designed to be played with just one hero!
p.s. So, as timelimit don't have influence, I don't mind it to rest often...
<edit> Difficulty is set to HARD!
