Solo suggestions
Solo suggestions
I'm looking for suggestions of what class to play as in a solo run-through. I recently tried the sorceror but thought it was a bit too easy, I felt invincible from the get go , I'd prefer if it started a bit harder and towards the end when it get's more difficult the class holds up well. My favourite run-through is with a Avenger that kept a nice even level throughout, so I'm not interested in druids, and probably something with a bit more of a challenge.
I see some talk about dual classes, if you got a suggestions for one of those I'd really like to know when, what good quests to save and how you like to level up when your second class is still weak.

SoA can be solo'ed by any class, where ToB gets more challenging/difficult with the more restrictive classes such as pure fighter classes (though still quite possible).
You don't post any mods that you play with, so I assume none. Mods, however, are a great way to increase the difficulty.
If you want it to start a bit harder, I'd suggest a single class thief kit. They get more powerful in the end with their HLAs - perhaps too powerful if you cheese.
Dual classes are always more powerful than their single class(es) equivalent. Ie. a fighter/X is always stronger than the 'X' class, except for the period where your first class is inactive.
If you want a dual class which is less powerful but with the versatility to give the main class more spark, start the other way around. ie instead of a thief->mage, go mage->thief. And stay away from fighter/X if you want a challenge.

Why not try a pure Solo Cleric for a difficult game or even a Berserker 13 > cleric if you want it a bit easier but still hard. Not having access to arcane power will cripple you enough to provide challenge, but this class is alot more powerfull than any straight fighter subclass.
Edit: Don't go X>Mage, X>Thief, and don't have mage or thief in any multiclass since that will make the game ridiculously easy

If you read arba's posts though, you would probably come to the same conclusion that I did: that the player isn't interested in cheese/exploit/powergaming per se, but rather a challenge.
If you play like that, the backstab increase is indeed a great asset, as it means an assassin has a much higher chance of taking out an enemy with a single hit than a regular thief does.
