Only the first dialog text is said out loud?
Only the first dialog text is said out loud?
Call me spoiled, but I like games where every character talking has a recorded sound. And I noticed in this game only the first line is spoken out loud and then all quiet, just text. Is this correct or is my game broken?

I can only guess you haven't really played some "real" RPGs, or rather, one strong in text. If all baldur's gate text existed as real sounds... Wow. That would require a bluray or something
Some important dialogues are indeed sounded, but other than that, the sounds are there to give you a taste of what you are hearing and let your imagination work its way.
I totally love old school Rpg, I do.

So it's true that only the first line in every conversation is spoken out loud?
It's just that there is so much talking...jeez just shut up I wanna explore the world not hear life stories of every person. Half way thru a conversation I just start to look for "gotta go, bye" option.
I guess you are right about me not playing real RPG's. I'm totally overwhelmed by the scale and complexity of this game. I've done more reading about it then playing haha. I LOVE IT!![Smile :)](./images/smilies/)

Yes. It was intended to add flavor, only.kurent wrote:So it's true that only the first line in every conversation is spoken out loud?
It does have that effect on some people who are open to its quality, despite the "improvement" in graphics over the years, and the truckloads of PR hype that have been shoveled over recent titles. I like the character voices, so I really don't mind even the single lines; otherwise, I could have managed perfectly well with text, alone.I guess you are right about me not playing real RPG's. And another nice thing about text is that some mods have come out that add to the quantity of interparty dialog, with just as much quality as the original. If all the lines had been voiced, these would have stuck out badly. As it is, they blend in very well.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

That's beatiful. Heed my words, there will be a time when you'll say "Damn, I want my first days of Baldur's gate back! I want to be overwhelmed again!"
I just wish there were more people like you who appriciates ingame quality. The gaming world seems to be on a highway to dumbification.
