Cleric\Ranger sronghold bug

Post by Darth Bane88 »

Sorry if this is a stupid question but: I'm playing a Cleric/Ranger multiclass, but whenever I try to start the cult quest It won't identify me as a "man of faith" so I can't start it. Any ideas would be helpful :D

I am fully patched

Thx in advance

Hm... multiclass... I seem to recall reading somewhere in the manual "remember that dualclassing does not change your character's profession. You can have many classes, but only one profession". I have always thought it was a hint on the fact that you can't have multiple strongholds, but why only about dualled chars and not multiclassed... Did you get a ranger's stronghold already, perchance?

It's not a stupid question at all. For some reason (most likely it's an oversight), the game does not check whether your character is a Cleric/Ranger, even though it checks for other multi-class or dual-classed characters such as Fighter/Clerics, Cleric/Mages, Cleric/Thieves, and Fighter/Mage/Clerics. A fix for this problem is contained in the G3 Fixpack, which updates the following files:

ar0900.bcs, ar0902.bcs, arval.bcs, bharval.dlg, borinall.dlg, scsain.dlg, travin.dlg

I always thought that it might just be intentional.

Think about it: a R/C is most likely a Cleric of a nature deity, and that's who you're doing the ranger stronghold quests for, isn't it?

The best evidence for your theory is that the Cleric stronghold is not available, so it is reasonable to assume that it was intentional. On the other hand, the good folks at G3 have found hundreds of errors in the game, so it's also possible that Cleric/Rangers were overlooked by mistake. The authors of the G3 Fixpack have stated that they do a lot of work in "grey areas", but they do try to verify the intentions of the game designers whenever possible. The Cleric/Ranger Stronghold Fix is contained in their group of "Core Fixes", so they must be reasonably sure that there was an error that needed to be corrected. Otherwise, their Fixpack is questionable if their decisions are arbitrary and therefore subject to dispute.
