Help - Ideas to help me liberate Kvatch (Spoiler)

Post by Claudius »

I am trying to liberate Kvatch and I have gotten to a battle where you are taking the key to the guardhouse. We ran into a PACK of monsters! I have two imperial legionaires and a guard with me. I am a 7th level Bosmer Agent but its a toe to toe fight and I shine slowly picking off enemies and outmaneuvering them.

I am fighting a bunch of scamps, a clannfear runt, a seducer, 1(2?) Herne. Some of those enemies might be from Fransesca's mod. The Herne is nasty because it has a lot of heal spells. I have a window where I take 1 or 2 out but then the allies die and I get ganged up on and killed. My toe to toe assets are good marksman 45ish (sometimes interupted in melee but more damage than my other forms), 25ish hand-to-hand, 20ish blade and a silver dagger and 40ish alchemy plus loads of poison(I wish you could somehow keep autopoisoning your blade with a command), 35ish alteration and a 15 shield spell, also I have manufactured around 15 heal potions 3 per 10 seconds. I wear full chainmail and a kvatch guard helm.

My feeling is that I just don't have enough juice but I fear leveling waiting will cause me to level (and them to become nasty daedra) which will make it even harder!! Fransesca's mod will help a little because it takes 12 major skill level ups to gain a level. Also an adjents skills are not what I need in the fight so I don't need to level those much higher, I think I need some better equipment, spells, and more melee dps (I'm doing 2 per hit right now).

The game is set one click over from the default setting towards easy. I hesitate to alter that just to progress. I'd rather see this as in 'in game' challenge.

Thank you if you read all this! Suggest away....(spoiler light)

You can attach poison potions to short cut key, on a PC at least. Other than that all I can suggest is trying again when you're 9th level. You'll be that much better prepared and the monstres shouldn't level up to higher than Clanfear Runts, Scamps etc. until you reach 10th level. Personally I always take on Kvatch before reaching 5th level, and finishing all the Mage Guild recommendations. That way until you enter the castle all you'll meet (apart from the odd Churl) ire Scamp Runts and the like.

Spoiler (Highlight to read):

Also by doing the recommendations one has access to the spell maker, very useful, especially if you make a Drain Health 100 magnitude for 1 second spell, takes out Scamps and CF Runts in one hit.

Thanks Galraen, I'll try again later... I definitely need some more damage potential. I found some good great gear off a named bandit that Martin killed for me. Very fortuitous to have him around. I was actually only 6th but now I've leveled to 7th. Its slower leveling now especially with the Fransesca mod although mercantile is 2x faster.

I also think the mage spellcrafting would help. A spell that grants some heal for a duration and some shield to cast on other might also help if I can keep my allies hacking then I don't get singled out.

Anyhow I definitely think improving my damage is a must.

i can tell you from my bad experience, that at higher levels than yours, everything will be much worse.

it seems that particular battle is so unbalanced, unlike anything else in the game that can be handled pretty well, that you might wish to lower the difficulty bar for that battle alone, and then forget about it and play all the rest on your fave settings, supposedly normal. it seems so really screwed up, no matter at which level you take it.

uespwiki even suggests to do it at lvl 1, cause at every other level it'll get worse and more unbalanced.

That would be hard to get all the way to kvatch without leveling up! I don't use fast travel which partly explains that comment. Well I raised to level 7 and now I am finding the land pretty dangerous. Fransesca's mod makes more variety in enemies so you don't face enemies exactly your level all the time some lower (many) and a few higher. It seems more realistic because its odd how the land is like morphing into harder and harder difficulty. I usually just pretend the oblivion gates are letting more stuff in as time goes. But it would be weird if wolves all the sudden went extinct and there were only timber. Then dire. Etc...

as galraen suggested, i waited until i was 9th level until i dealt with kvatch, and didn't see any increase in monsters types, but then might have been due to me completing the mage quests and fighters guild quests first. Playing as a dark elf battlemage though.....

At your level, try a weak summoning spell to even out the numbers. I did this at level 1 so apparently from this forum this quest is ridiculously hard at higher levels. Also, try some Alteration like shield or defend that boosts defense. 5% doesnt seem like a lot until you get killed when the scamp needed 1 more frickin hit!

Well I'm level 8 just completed the mages quests. And I have a drain health spell to work with to customize my own drain spell: Soul Kiss. I am a crappy destruction caster so not sure how much help it will be.

But I do double the blade damage and I found a glass shield/helm and a cuirass of 20% chameleon (mithril). Some draconic greaves and olympian (awsome 4 bonuses fur boots).

I figure at level 9 I should be good enough to beat it but if not I'll adjust difficulty cause I know its not getting any better!
