Jaheira snapped -SPOILERS!

Post by Goldry Bluszco »

Here's the basic scenario...
The party enters the Beholder Dungeon in the Underdark and while defeating the first two beholders (a tough fight for my party) Jaheira is petrified. It took me several reloads to get through this first area, so I thought it worthwhile to run back to the merchants and get a Stone to Flesh scroll rather than reload and take my beating again. Upon returning and freeing her from this frozen state, the first words out of her mouth are that she doesn't know me anymore, the Harpers have been keeping tabs, and it's time to lay down some justice. Jaheira and about five summoned Harpers proceed to initiate a fight to the death. No chance for dialogue was presented, and I really don't want to kill Jaheira...we've been together so long! I realize that as my reputation gets worse (slayer ability, etc...) that these NPCs will react accordingly, but this seemed out of left field. Does petrification change a character? Could it be a glitch? I did nothing unusual in defeating the beholders...Minsc did it all w/ the cloak of mirroring. Oh, and I've only used the slayer ability once, and that was to open a door in the Mind Flayer dungeon. Also, I've not done anything w/ Jaheira's quest or the Harpers yet, so I've not had a chance to TRULY offend yet. Here is the current party makeup...

PC Neutral evil mage
Jaheira
Minsc
Valgayar
Imoen
Mazzy

This could be a back up and replay it situation, but I'm curious.

Thanks.

it looks like a flaw in the game, the problem is when a char is petrified or imprisoned they "leave" your party and some chars change then, eg if you romance the person

but i had never THIS problem, which version of BG / TOB do you use, maybe you use a mod ?

Jaheira will summon Harpers and attack you if:

1) She thinks you kicked her out of your party (when she was petrified, she "left" your party, which does seem like a flaw in the game), and

2) your Reputation is 5 or less. This is not a bug; it's a feature.

Hello again,
hmmm...I've never even considered the reputation/alignment facet of the game (the plot thickens)...too busy killin'. The PC is lawful evil actually, not what I had written earlier, further demonstrating my ignorance of the matter. It seems my reputation is 5, 5 stars is good...then I read in the manual that 20 is actually the positive end of that scale. I'll never make it to the prom this way and I think it is due to my stinginess in the temples. This is attributable to my grandfather on my mother's side (a different matter entirely).
Jaheira won't join my party again due to the lousy reputation. She COULD simply decline politely, but no, she needs to destroy me. Hey! That's kind of like...nm.
Thanks again VonDondu...btw, you were also correct about the released prisoner battle w/ Irenicus...the loonies WERE attacking the clones and not my actual party.

Spoiler
Jaheira is a force of neutrality, she cannot stand extremes in alignment, or in this case as represented by reputation.
You only need to pay temples for reputation if you're desperate to have it increase here and now, otherwise there should be ample quests to raise it.

When reputation is 5, a player may not find the number of reputation-affecting quests "ample" enough. Especially since
Spoiler
every time he invokes his Slayer form later, he loses another 2 rep.
If you want to play with a despised evil/neutral party, that might work for you, though you'll all too easily lose access to merchant services. And your current party is not evil/neutral. If you want a higher rep, should consider using Shadowkeeper to edit it a bit. Or change the alignments of your party members to neutral. Just my POV.

Or perhaps consider the G3 Tweak Pack, that includes a tweak which keeps all party members relatively happy all the time, regardless of how low your rep slides.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Just a pointer, you may want to get that rep up soon. The current party members you have don't like evil people... One of them in particular will give you the Beefy Bootheel of Justice! :D
"Korax thinks you look very tasty today...

I AM taking a lot of guff from the members. I suppose I should address now as I'm heading in to that city next, which is bound to get ugly. Good fun.
Thanks all.
