Refusing La Croix's quests

Post by Amergin »

I've just finished the second of the main quests downtown, and reported to La Croix. He told me the next job he wanted done, and I told him what to do with the thing he wanted, his organisation, and his gorilla. I was expecting that he'd tell me off and order me to go do as I was told, but he had me thrown out.

In order to go on with the game, do I have to do the quest and report back to him as if I'd never refused (which doesn't make sense from a roleplaying point of view), or will he eventually have me dragged back and order me to do it? If it's that he has me dragged back, please don't give details of when/by whom.

Why not continue to explore the game and see what happens yourself?

Hmm, do I spy a hint? Well, I do have a couple of other things on my "to do" list, so I'll go see what happens. Thanks.

Confession

Well, actually, it sounds scripted, hence it should be fine to continue, or it would have not been so.
/
Spoiler
I am under the impression that he would simply Dominate you to accept the quest anyway... which is not in your description.
/ Hope I didn't lead you into a wild run to a dead end...

Results might differ with patch level.

I refused the quest just as you did, and wasn't dominated into doing it anyways. I've played a bit, done some other things (I believe I finished all the possible side quests until that point), but nothing happened. I wasn't dragged back in by LaCroix, there didn't seem to be any other way to continue the game without sucking it up to him.

Still, I was given other reasons to do it. The Anarchs, if you want to side with them, ask you to continue working for LaCroix and report back to them. Since the quest it happened to me was the one at the Museum, Pisha also gives another reason to go in there. But I don't think there is another way to continue the story without going back to LaCroix and doing his bidding. Anyways, I haven't found it, and it hasn't found me.

By the plot, you *must* do as LaCroix bids. How or why you get around to it, might change slightly. I remember reading that there was a "deux ex machina" in him dominating you (likely just a dialog thing) so the plot can progresses properly anyway, even if you screw it up really bad. I think, I do recall having actually done it once now, while trying to be smart mouthed Malkav chick. But memory is iffy.

This might be a missed bug. Unfortunate for you...

Actually, I refused his 2 previous quests, and was dominated to do them. For the third one (Patron of the Arts), when I refused, he just got angry and told his goon to escort me out of the building. I really don't think this is a bug, since there's actual dialogue and scripting to make this happen.

Maybe this only happens when you've already been dominated twice. But I wonder why there's this outcome if there's no way to go to the museum or continue the story without going back and accepting LaCroix's quest.

My guess is that you've got to go back to LaCroix and accept the quest. But, let us know. I'm actually kind of curious as to whether something else has to happen first. I wonder if any of the anarchs (mainly Jack) have any special dialogues at this point, as well. I've never been that antagonistic to LaCroix in one of my playthroughs.

Well, nothing happened first. I was forced to go back to LaCroix and do take his quest. The anarchs have next to nothing to say. Jack only tells you to go on doing what you would normally do (doing LaCroix's biding).
