Trap Help

Post by Charlie13 »

First off let me say that I only recently purchased this game and I'm loving it. I also have been appreciating this great board with current responses to a game that is over 8yo. Thanks for staying interested, you all have been very helpful.

Now onto my questions.

Traps have been kicking the crap out of my party. I just finished the Dragon Maw part and it took me two or three times longer than it should have due to the floor traps causing poison and confusion and whatnot. I had hoped that my thief would find and disarm them but either his skill is too low or he's a moron. When I had my cleric cast Find Traps I saw where they were and was able to avoid them for a brief period but still my thief had no interest in disarming them. Am I doing something wrong or should I not have recruited a blind halfling to the group?

Also, sometimes the party just quits on me. I have to close out the game and restart it to get them going again. What gives?

Once I have completed the game what's next? I like the idea of running through it again with a smaller group (currently running with 6, P, F, C, T, B, and M. Old school I know) but is there some downloadable content or expansion packs still available?

Thanks in advance for what I'm sure will be great advice.

Please don't take this the wrong way but have you put points into find traps on thief levelling up? needs to be over 50% for Dragon's Eye. Also thief doesn't disarm traps when finding them, you need to get them to disarm them by clicking on the 'mask' icon and pointing at trap. Sorry in advance if you already know this; also thief cannot disarm traps if wearing anything heavier than leather armour.
There is the Heart of Winter expansion pack and Trials of the Luremaster. Also try the game on higher difficulty levels and with multiclass or dual characters.

No offense taken for sure gb, when I get a chance I'll double check his skill level in FT. I had thought that I was giving him enough points but I may have gotten a little lax in the past levels. Regardless, that is where a majority of all future points will be going.

Do the higher difficulty levels yield better treasure as well?

Possibly better item drops sooner, but it definitely yields to quicker lvls just as long as you have 4 or less in your party. I've never really seen much change in the items in difficulty jumps.

But unless you've played the game long, or a seasoned player in relavent games; I'd suggest not playing on HoF mod - especially through the expansions. Till you feel you're ready atleast. It's your call though, if you just wanna go for challege then go for it. But don't say I didn't warn ya :D

Not appreciably, no, except in that they add more enemies, who will drop individual treasures for you to pick up. The big money is in various magical (named) artifacts, so you might only get a few extra thousand in total from increased numbers of enemies.

Re: the trap-finding question... Are you waiting long enough?

You need to a) be able to find traps by having enough in the skill and wearing appropriate armor, b) click the trap-finding icon, c) wait long enough to "find" the trap - it will become highlighted in red and d) click the disarm/pick pocket icon then click on the edge of the highlighted trap.

is this game possible with <4 party members? I've had my share of reloads with a 6 man group (granted I've obviously be taken a pounding from traps d'oh!) and like I said I'm still new to the game, but making a run with only 3 people seems.....impossible?

It's even possible with 1 character, and it's not nearly as hard as you might think. You level much faster and protecting one character is often easier than protecting 6.

The max is 3 classes per character. A F/M/T or F/M/C might have the easiest time of it. A R/C or F/D could do ok, too.
